My client, a leading automotive manufacturer based in Whitley, West Midlands, is looking to recruit a Project Engineer for their Powertrain division on a long term contract basis.

Position: Project Engineer

Position Description:
Primary on site contact for the PD team regarding status and issues relating to new engine programme launch and ongoing product development. Ultimate sign off responsibility for Quality of engines shipped from Autocraft. Working in partnership with Autocraft to ensure efficient & timely resolution of any launch roadblocks. Resolve issues between PD, Autocraft, and suppliers/STA using robust problem solving techniques when issues such as Product, Manufacturing Feasibility or Quality risks arise. Support adherence to programme gateways in the run up to and during the Launch.

Skills Required:
Drive timely resolution of open gateway issues risking launch and manage recovery plans. Deliver Flawless Launch principles and Launch spike avoidance/Robustness activities. Ensure full team support (finance, mfg, PD, purchasing, STA, MP&L) for timing and launch meetings at the plant and other key meetings associated to the program launch. Lead the parts/supplier readiness process and work with the STA and Purchasing departments and key suppliers to manage the delivery of parts and demonstrated supply chain robustness and capacity for each build phase and the Start of Production.

Skills Preferred:
Ensure delivery and adherence to Product & Process sign off criteria including Process Validation. Set up processes for capture and response to customer issues. Promote a culture of continuous improvement via Lessons Learned and the use of best practice. Support replication of lessons into Global Engine Launches and other engine plants. Champion current P/T AIMS relating to Autocraft to pend actions in 90 days. Responsible for planning the resolution of issues not requiring engineering change before they become warranty statistics.

Experience Required:
Identify and support TVM and non programme engineering change activities. Understand customer satisfaction drivers and create and deliver sufficiency plans. Define and deliver closure of QSF's within 70 day target. Contain issues when understood with appropriate design or process changes. Support development of Autocraft QOS with reference to best practice. Deliver timely closure of CCRG issues. Provide liaison between Autocraft and Product Engineering to ensure constant communication between the two groups. Provide first response and actions on Engineering issues at Autocraft. Provide in-plant assistance to plant management in the resolution of manufacturing machining/assembly and process concerns. Authorise the use of components and deviations away from specifications in conjunction with design engineering. Review in-plant concerns (using WERS) and Quality Alerts in respect of component parts and assists in defining and assigning the concerns to the correct engineering activity. Ensure concerns are progressed within PD. Arrange and assist in the co-ordination of line trials in respect of Engineering design changes. Ensure appropriate support from Autocraft for CMM and OTG processes. Review IP audit engines to ensure components and engines are meeting Engineering Specifications on an on-going basis. Initiate corrective actions as required such as 8D team lead/support. Support Plant Quality Team on resolution of quality issues. Work with Receiving Inspection personnel to provide proper interpretations on Engineering Drawings and Specifications. Support Plant in achieving Launch Quality and efficiency Metrics. Provide an interface with Customer Service/Remanufacturing teams on resolution of field issues. Drive STA Site Engineers as needed in identification and resolution of chronic external Supplier quality issues. Support plant-specific 6-Sigma projects when required.

Experience Preferred:
Proven ability to influence and/or manage people. Experience in project management, process improvement and strategy development. Candidate must have a record of proactive delivery and commitment to meeting deadlines. Demonstrated ability to lead complex issues resolution. Ability to negotiate with other functions to achieve objectives. Qualified in an Engineering discipline. Familiarity with PD processes and systems is essential (including WERS, AIMS). Working knowledge of six sigma principles and process capability. Good grounding and experience in machining and assembly processes. An ability to work independently and to prioritise complex issues. Good verbal and written communication skills required to communicate at all levels. Exposure to quality systems (PAWS, AWS, AA, EPQR). Data manipulation and presentation capability pivot tables, PowerPoint, minitab etc.

Education Required:
Some experience of Project Management is essential Relevant degree would be advantageous.
