Progress EDI Developer

This Senior Level PROGRESS CODE/EDI DEVELOPER evaluates, designs, develops and implements projects involving complex business requirements across multiple hardware and software platforms to meet business requirements.

S/He screens requests for computer services, determines general customer requirements, develops and evaluates alternative systems solutions and functional specifications. Must be able to translate high level specifications for software components into designs and implement.

Requires a Bachelor's degree and 5-8 years of progressive experience in systems analysis/programming using Progress in combination with EDI knowledge.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Identifies and resolves the most complex technical programming problems related to enhancements and support of Progress code related to EDI.
- Investigates and documents existing procedures. Discusses proposed solutions for complex systems with customer. Recommends appropriate design alternatives to be implemented based on customer constraints.
- Develops and executes plans and procedures for data conversion, customer acceptance criteria and installation strategy. Prepares reports outlining the proposed systems or revisions.
- Codes, tests, and documents using specialized language programs. Performs specialized programming tasks requiring a high degree of technical proficiency in specialized areas.

SPECIALTIES

- 5 - 8 years' experience in Progress Varnet Business application versions 7.x to current
- Experience with ordering, invoices, warehousing and Finance modules is a plus as well as any experience in Progress package Varnet
- EDI knowledge including but not limited to x12 data definitions of versions 3020 through 4030
- Experience with the use of Sterling Commerce Gentran Visual Mapper application running in the Unix environment
- Unix Scripting
