Product Safety Engineer

We are looking for a Product Safety Engineer with a strong background in Naval Engineering to work for a market leading defence company.

Due to the sensitive nature of the projects involved, applicants must hold a live MOD SC security clearance.

OVERALL PURPOSE OF THE POSITION

Reporting to the Product Safety Manager, ensuring and assuring that all Optronics designs and products meet the appropriate:

- safety requirements
- relevant current legislation and regulations
- that the companies process and governance has been followed, and
-any necessary certification can be produced
- to support where necessary the Product Safety Manager in facilitating product safety meetings and reviews.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

This role includes responsibility for:

- Undertaking the activities identified in Safety Management Plans as directed by the Project Safety Manager
- Recording and archiving the project Safety Requirements and ensuring these are included on the project design baseline
- Identifying and analysing Hazards and Risks
- Creating and maintaining the project Hazard Log, including appropriate traceability to the Causes, Consequences, Risk Control Measures, Assumptions, etc.
- Collating and configuring the evidence necessary to complete the Safety Case and Report
- Capturing, reporting and supporting resolution of safety issues
- Creating reports and artefacts to support the safety case, including deliverable items
- Reviewing observations and reports from users or maintainers and defining corrective actions to maintain the solution safety case where necessary
- Reviewing deliverable artefacts to ensure adequate warnings and cautions are captured in support of the safety argument
- Report progress against the safety management programme
- Provide expert contribution, guidance and consultancy to ensure safety is implemented in the design
- Provide audit and review to ensure engineering staff are aware of, and operate to, the prescribed safety processes and that Actions are appropriately discharged
- Identify improvements to the tools and processes used to support the Safety Management System.
