An exciting opportunity has arisen to join one of our Central Government clients, working as a Contracts Manager in Bristol. The chosen candidate will be ensure that our client adheres to the appropriate legal standards and best practises which apply to the entire spectrum of purchasing and contracting activities with third parties. They will also be providing support to our client's contract management community for managing all aspects of contracts and related issues.

Key tasks

- Liaison with others to gather information and understand requirements and arrangements that may become the subject of a third party contract with the client such as fleet, uniform or equipment needs or services required.
- Establishing the relevant contractual, information to tender and bid documentation for engagement with third parties to establish formal contractual arrangements.
- Supporting the negotiation and agreement of contracts with external third parties to ensure best value for money in any subsequent agreement.
- Managing allocated contracts and resolving related issues to ensure both external third parties and the client are meeting their obligations by the use of relevant measures and controls.
- Continually monitoring contracts for risks and improvement opportunities, identifying mitigation and actions required, applying these when required and regularly reporting status to Senior Management.
- Providing support, advice and challenge where appropriate by being a focal point and a recognised expert in all matters related to contracts in general and allocated contracts in particular.
- Ensuring regular and accurate financial reporting to support budget management.
- Ensuring all relevant contractual records and related correspondence is maintained.
- Ensuring the effectiveness of the Procurement and Contracts Team by performing other tasks and initiatives as required.

Experience Required

Essential

- Experience of Contract Management (buying, selling or procurement) preferably in a public sector environment
- Experience of budget management or budget reconciliation
- Experience in negotiation and resolution of commercial issues with internal and external customers
- Computer Literate, experienced with MS Word, Excel, email and Internet

Desirable

- Good knowledge of contract law, procurement practices and legal/guidelines.
- Willingness to travel across UK with some overnight stays possible when necessary
- Willing to study for CIPS as above
- Possess (or be studying for) membership of the Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply (CIPS)
