Description :
The Programmatic CRO Category Manager will be part of the R&D Procurement global organization and his/her responsibilities will include, but not be
limited to: developing the category strategy, conducting competitive bidding, negotiating and executing contracts, managing key supplier relationships, partnering
with key customers to address team support and supplier performance issues, providing external market insights to help shape business partner strategies and
meet business needs, and maintaining state-of-the-art knowledge of the category in order to initiate new techniques and procedures for continued efficiency,
compliance and consistency.
Responsibilities:
- Depending on the complexity of the category, the Category Manager will lead or participate in the end-end category management activities. These activities
may include: category strategy development, stakeholder management and Supplier Relationship Management (SRM). This individual may serve as a
Global Supplier Relationship Manager (GSRM) and work with the Category Director/Sr. Category Manager within the Programmatic CRO category team to
ensure comprehensive strategy development and timely execution of agreements.
- The Category Manager will work with project teams through the bidding and vendor selection processes, as well as negotiate and execute service
agreements with varying complexity.
The Category Manager will implement and administer standard Procurement policies and processes for multiple departments/geographic areas, client
groups, and/or functional projects.
- The Category Manager will interface with various R&D Procurement functional and Therapeutic Area team members, as well as with peers in the
Procurement Action Center. He or she will have significant interactions with the external environment and handle relationships with Senior Management of
incumbent and non-incumbent suppliers.
- The Category Manager must be a strong presence and will also interface with many levels and functions within the organization such
as Centers of Excellence, Finance, Legal, HR and other Category Leads across R&D Procurement and Global Procurement function. It is
possible a person in this position may also have the added role of a site point person for team members at their site and/or interact with Alliance
Management (as appropriate).
Technical skills:
- A minimum of a Bachelor's degree in life sciences or business is required. An advanced degree is preferred (MS, MBA, PhD, JD, etc.).
- A minimum of 5 years' experience working in the Pharmaceutical, Biotechnology or Medical Device/Diagnostics industry and/or at a clinical trial External
Service Provider (i.e., CRO, Central Lab, ECG, IVRS) in pharmaceutical research is required.
- A minimum 3 years of experience implementing and negotiating service provider contracts is required. Must have an understanding of the drug
development process, as well as experience in financial and legal contract language required. Procurement sourcing experience supporting clinical trials is
preferred.
- Previous experience as a user or provider of outsourced services is required. A working knowledge of the RFP process is required.
- Knowledge of pharmaceutical R&D processes, GLPs, GMPs and/or GCPs is desirable.
- Must have the ability to deal with all levels of an organization, have excellent communication and presentation skills and be knowledgeable of procurement
systems. The successful candidate must have demonstrated skills in developing strong business relationships with clients and vendors.
- Must have demonstrated skills and be able to participate in highly functioning interdependent partnerships with other Sourcing/Contracting/Procurement
groups and developing strong business relationships with clients and vendors.
- Must be able to work effectively in a matrixed environment while supporting specific teams and/or projects for business partners.
- Must be results oriented and customer-focused
- Must be able to prioritize requests, and propose effective cost/customer service alternatives when necessary and exercise judgment within scope in
developing new approaches and resolving issues.
- Willing & able to travel, both domestic and international, approximately 20%
- Language knowledge: fluency in English (required) and Dutch (preferred), other languages a plus.
- This position can be based in any of the following sites: Leiden (The Netherlands), Beerse (Belgium)
