Principal Software (SW) Engineer

Yoh has a contract opportunity for a PRINCIPAL SW (SOFTWARE) ENGINEER - UNIT TEST AUTOMATION INFRASTRUCTURE DEVELOPMENT to join our client in San Jose, CA.

To help support this growth we are looking for an experienced engineer to lead our software development devtest group.

JOB OVERVIEW:

In this role, you will individually contribute to, and will establish standards and coach others, on the creation and enhancement of automated unit test infrastructure. This position is located in Sunnyvale, CA and reports to the Senior Director of our WLAN software team.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Fully automated pure-software unit test:
- Selection and deployment of a new unit test framework, including making "build vs. buy" recommendation. Define standard for unit test cases to log messages and report PASS/FAIL.
- Define and implement logging, result reporting, infrastructure architecture
- Integrate into our existing pre-checkin Python validation infrastructure under both Linux and Windows.
- Create new unit test cases in C, both to test the product and as reference examples for other developers and teams.
- Define, document, publish and train staff on unit test standards.
- Integrate the unit test framework into the Makefiles and source tree. Integrate into our precommit validation process on Linux primarily, and also on Windows and other OSes.
- Integrate existing unit test cases to the framework.
- Other duties as assigned.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

- BS (MSCS preferred) or equivalent engineering degree plus ten plus (10+) years of experience. The experience should be in the areas of:
- Five (5) years (and recent) software development or test automation development, specifically using python, C, Perl, Shell or TCL.
- Five (5) years TCP/IP Networking development, test or lab experience is required. Wireless preferred.
- Three (3) years technical leadership or project supervision.
- Multi-platform experience is required, including at least Windows and Linux, and preferable RTOSes and MacOS as well.
- At least Three (3) years administering GNU Make tools and processes, with at least two (2) years each using Windows and Linux.
- Must have experience with build and release in a multi-OS systems environment. This must include Embedded, systems products, such as mobile phones, Switches/Routers, field upgradable consumer devices, etc.
- Outstanding written and verbal communication skills are a must. Must be able to write plans, explanations and justifications to motivate and justify infrastructure changes.
- Prior experience with Continuous Integration/Continuous Test tools like Jenkins/Hudson/Electric Commander is highly desirable.
- Must have worked in a geographically distributed team, and preferably provided technical leadership for remote engineers.
- Skill Sets:

* C/C++/Perl/Python/TCL software development.
* Whitebox software test.
* Test automation.
* Scripting/tools/automation, preferably in Python or alternatively in Perl.
* Software build experience.
* Networking equipment test.
* Wireless development and testing (desirable).
* Embedded firmware (desirable).
