Given the breadth of our existing technical capabilities there are fantastic opportunities for applicants to develop new skills.

Our workload for developers, conservation bodies and government agencies continues to expand and with strong further growth already secured for 2014 and beyond, we are looking to appoint a Principal level ecologist as maternity cover to support our existing highly experienced team. Although the post is initially offered for nine months, there will be the possibility of extension or a permanent position after this time. JOB TITLE: PRINCIPAL ECOLOGIST - MATERNITY COVER (9 MONTHS WITH POTENTIAL FOR EXTENSION)

LOCATION: GLASGOW/EDINBURGH

Salary: Commensurate with experience

CLOSING DATE: 31.01.2014

Typical activities will include:

• Contributing to the future growth and strategy of the Scottish Ecology Team
• Providing high quality technical support to clients and colleagues across various UK offices
• Contributing to the technical delivery of our wide range of renewable and other projects
• Writing/contributing to Environmental Impact Assessments and Habitats Regulation Appraisals
• Ensuring successful delivery of projects through careful client, financial and risk management
• Line management responsibilities, including guiding the careers of more junior staff

We are keen to hear from all motivated and enthusiastic ecologists, ideally with experience of working in this sector in Scotland, and our current focus is on the following technical capabilities:

• A thorough understanding of terrestrial ecology
• Knowledge of legislation and policy in relation to the conservation of ecological interests and designated sites across Scotland and Northern England
• Technical writing skills, with experience of writing EIAs and preferably HRAs for large developments
• Experience of other sectors, in addition to wind renewables, would be advantageous
• One or more protected species licences (e.g. bats, GCN) or specialist skills (e.g. aquatic surveys or NVC)
• A degree in a relevant subject and a post-graduate qualification or equivalent experience
• A full membership of CIEEM or a professional chartership

As well as these technical capabilities and expertise, you will also need:

• Experience of project management and the ability to juggle multiple projects
• To be a good team worker, reliable and able to rapidly establish a high degree of trust and rapport with all clients and stakeholders
• Have strong communications skills; confident and articulate in all communications i.e. face-to-face, telephone and written communications
• Have a good awareness of the Scottish business and the ability to spot opportunities
• Be self-motivated, self disciplined with the ability to work to tight deadlines
• Have good attention to detail; maintaining and enhancing our high standards of delivery, quality and accuracy
• Be highly computer literate and experienced with standard MS Office applications (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
• A full driving licence
