Principal Database Administrator Job

PRINCIPAL DATABASE ADMINISTRATOR needed for a CONTRACT opportunity with Yoh's client located in SUNNYVALE, CA.

THE BIG PICTURE - TOP SKILLS SHOULD YOU POSSESS:

- HANA and/or Oracle Experience
- Hadoop and MySQL Experience
- Ability to lead and drive projects

WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING:

- Lead cross functional teams in the identification and resolution of performance issues and project deployment.
- Manage databases in a 24x7 mission-critical production environment.
- Be able to trouble shoot critical database performance issues and propose solutions.
- Develop and/or select and implement continuous database monitoring tools.
- Work with software engineers to implement self-service tools in support of engineering and site reliability activities.
- Perform software evaluations, installations and upgrades.
- Monitor and optimize database operations and performance.
- Follow change control process by leading and driving reviews for production changes and GA releases.
- Design, test, implement and maintain database backup and recovery strategies.
- Provide 24x7 on-call support to production databases and high priority development databases.
- Manage database security including account administration, change control and auditing.
- Consult with engineering concerning database-related issues including database design and security.
- Be equally adept at working in multiple data platforms such as traditional structured RDBMS technologies as well as semi and unstructured Big Data technologies.
- Have deep experience running large projects from concept to successful implementation in systems with little room for outages.
- Become an expert in Hana in-memory database architecture, implementation, performance and management.

WHAT YOU NEED TO BRING TO THE TABLE:

- B.S. Information Services, Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
- Minimum of eight (8) years Oracle DBA experience in a mission-critical production environment on Linux.
- Experience with Oracle 11G and Data Guard.
- Experience with managing OLTP, OLAP, and data warehouse databases.
- Experience with database High Availability, Disaster Recovery, implementation, switchover and failover scenarios.
- Experience with database backup and recovery support in a 24x7 operations environment.
- Experience and deep understanding of storage technologies.
- Expert knowledge in Linux Shell Scripting.
- Expert knowledge in database development such as PL/SQL for database code and Advanced SQL for application queries.
- Expert knowledge in Kernel optimization for database performance.
- Expert knowledge of the various utilities when working at the Linux command line.
