An exciting opportunity has arisen with one of our Central Government clients based in Bedford.

The position will be:

- To deliver high quality communications to the media, road users, stakeholders (ensuring their needs are met and managed), and other audiences
- To contribute to achieving balanced and accurate media coverage for the Agency and building wider public understanding of the Agency's work
- To plan and implement communications activities and projects to raise the profile and reputation of the Agency and support its operational objectives.
- To ensure that the most appropriate communication solutions are delivered to the highest possible standards and advise on difficult handling issues

ROLE

COMMUNICATIONS PLANNING

- Work with colleagues across the Agency to plan and deliver effective communications, by producing communications and media handling plans and Q&A briefing as appropriate in advance of key initiatives or projects.
- Use insight to identify target audiences and partners and support decision making and approach in communications plans, inc. objectives, key messages, target audiences, channels and evaluate measures.

MEDIA HANDLING

- Provide a timely and professional media relations service to explain the work of the Highways Agency, including responding to media enquiries and proactive media handling.
- Ensure all news releases and lines to take are cleared in line with our processes.
- Record activity including media enquiries and interviews in the media enquiries database and where relevant, review spokespeople briefs.
- Identify opportunities to increase the number of feature and profile pieces in specialist titles.
- Identify opportunities to increase the use of visual imagery in our communications output.

BROADCAST MEDIA

- Identify opportunities to increase the number of broadcast interviews given. Ensure appropriate trained media spokespeople are in place - identify gaps in your areas and direct to suitable Civil Service Learning training, or other as appropriate.

USING SOCIAL MEDIA IN PRESS OFFICE

- Use the Agency's social media channels to reach wider audiences, as appropriate to your role.
- Input into the development of the Agency's approach to using in press office in line with Agency's social media policy.

BUILDING AND MANAGING RELATIONSHIPS - WORKING WITH OUR SUPPLIERS

- Create and maintain positive, professional and trusting working relationships with a wide range of people within and outside the Agency to help get business done.
- Work with service provider communications staff in your region to strengthen communication activity.
- Participate in regular meetings with the service provider communications staff.
- Where co-ordinating Cabinet Office Regional News Network activity in the region ensure it is in line with the service level agreement to ensure value for money, including monitoring their activity and delivery through the monthly activity report.
