press officer - London - full time

Location: London docklands

Salary: £32,000-36,000 + excellent pension and benefits

Duration: Full time - three year, fixed term contract

How would you like to be part of an award-winning press office, helping us tell our story and shaping the news agenda around our work? We attract a lot of media attention - so could you translate sometimes complex concepts into multimedia content that everyone can understand? And deepen our relationships with the media while also making sure our senior staff and colleagues are aware of media trends and customer service developments?

Were the Financial Ombudsman Service - an independent organisation set up to sort out disputes between financial services businesses and their customers. When a consumer has a complaint that they cant settle with the business, they can come to us. Were here to act fairly, reasonably and impartially - and our service is free for consumers to use.

Because were a high profile organisation whose work has a great impact on so many lives, a lot of influential people take a keen interest in what we do. Of course, the media has a huge influence on public opinion - and itll be your job to give context, colour and depth to media stories relating to the work we do. We need to respond to journalists queries in a helpful, professional and timely way. And its vital that people across the country see what were doing, how we do it, and what values are driving us. Youll be dealing directly with all types of media - print, online and broadcast - and will create publication standard articles to help tell our story. Given the importance of our messages, and the fact that we deal with highly sensitive data and circumstances, we often work directly with our CEOs office.

So what skills are we looking for from you? Well, youll have at least two years experience in a busy press office or PR agency. And youll obviously be a great communicator - one whos also able to manage challenging stakeholders as well as setting up and organising interviews. Prioritising is another must - youll need to be able juggle multiple tasks, making sure all the relevant deadlines are met. Our press office works as a team and youll be a positive and committed member of that team - helping us to present a clear picture of our work to the wider world. If youre looking to develop your PR abilities, this could be a great role for you.
