Projektbeschreibung

Press Officer- 6 months initial contract- Glasgow

You will be the first port of call for journalists enquiries. You will provide presentational and communications advice and expertise to Cabinet Secretaries, Ministers and policy officials, helping to shape the media agenda.

You will work collaboratively with your colleagues to promote a strategic and integrated approach to communications. This could vary from writing press releases and news articles, to undertaking social media campaigns and organising news conferences and events. You will be expected to provide credible advice to policy colleagues on the best methods of communicating with different stakeholder groups.

Main aspects of your work will centre on providing support to the Major Transport Infrastructure Projects team, working with strategic communications colleagues to deliver and advise on media aspects of their work. You will also provide support and advice to transport policy colleagues, in particular bus, freight and aviation colleagues. You will also act as first point of contact for concessionary fares media-related issues.

Your daily schedule is likely to be varied and fast-paced. You will regularly travel throughout Scotland, sometimes to areas that may be difficult to reach by public transport, and sometimes at short notice and outside office hours - for example, to provide communications support to response to an emergency situation.

The standard working week is 37 hours, but as we provide a 24-hour communications service, you will also be expected to participate in the out-of-hours duty communications officer rota on weekday evenings, weekends and public holidays. The current out of hours arrangement means officers are on duty one full week in approximately every eight. Outside emergency situations (predominantly weather-related during winter months) evening and weekend work over and above standard working week amounts to approximately 3-4 hours overtime in any given seven day week.

Travel
You will regularly travel throughout Scotland, sometimes to areas that may be difficult to reach by public transport, and sometimes as short notice and outside office hours - for example to provide communications support to responses to an emergency situation. A full clean drivers licence would be desirable but not essential.

Skills Experience
You must hold a minimum of 3 SCE Higher or A Level qualifications with one being English. Please note, only grades A, B and C are acceptable. Other qualifications equivalent to these may also be acceptable, if you are in any doubt please contact to discuss.

Strong knowledge and experience of working with the media is essential. You will demonstrate a keen news sense and understanding of the political context, together with sound judgement and the ability to build strong and trusting working relationships. You will come up with creative and innovative communications solutions, often at short notice, and have a track record of presenting your views effectively to clients and senior colleagues.

You will have a strong knowledge and experience of using a variety of communications channels and technologies to reach different audiences. Advantage Resourcing is a service driven recruitment consultancy.
