THE COMPANY AND PROJECT:

A recognised power electronics business in the West Midlands have a 6 month contract (with a further 6 month extension) requirement for an experienced Control Specialist/Power Electronics Engineer. The company specialise in High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) Transmission Systems using both Line-Commutated (thyristor based) and Voltage-Sourced (IGBT based) converter technologies.

Your role is to work with the multi disciplined Engineering Team and component manufacturer to update an existing VSC product for Converters for HVDC applications.

You should have experience in developing control strategies with a particular focus on IGBT's for power converters (not necessarily at High Voltage), with an ability to work quickly and efficiently within an engineering team.

You should be someone who can work to tight timescales and someone who enjoys working at the forefront of technology.

SKILLS REQUIRED:

- Power Converter/VSC experience
- High power electronic components (IGBT's, thyristors and passive components)
- Power system engineering
- Power electronic control algorithms and techniques (eg vector control)
- Matlab and Simulink desirable
- SimPowerSystems desirable
- PLECS, SABER, PSCAD-EMTDC, MATHCAD desirable
