Power Electronic Design Engineer

My client based in North East England is looking to take on a Power Electronic Design Engineer for a 6 month rolling contract.

The company manufacture a wide range of power electronics products custom designed to meet specific customer requirements. Applications range from rail transport and aerospace to industrial.

They are looking for a power electronics engineer with a complimentary blend of the following skills:

Semiconductor device selection and control, ie IGBT, Mosfet, Thyristor etc. Silicon Carbide technology would be a bonus

Filter design, including Magnetics selection

System simulation skills, preferably in Matlab Simulink and/or Plecs

Knowledge of PCB design

Thermal management and packaging design

Design for EMC

Understanding of control systems and Embedded systems design

Knowledge of standard converter architectures, ie AC:DC, DC:DC, AC:AC, DC:AC; modern architectures a bonus ie Matrix, Resonant and Multi-level converters

Working to standards and qualification testing

Main functions/responsibilities will include -

The development, analysis, and validation of design solutions to meet the project requirements using prototyping, simulation and validation by test techniques.

Generation of all functional, component, manufacturing, test and validation specifications. Contribute to the delivery of accurate project documentation.

Ensuring that all design solutions are robust, reliable, meet the budgeted cost and are on time.

Support Related activities such as drawing and printed circuit board development.

Liaise with test and production departments during product introduction process, including design of test rigs.

Support with the installation and commissioning of equipment at the customers premises.

To assist the Principal Engineer in the planning, test set-up and operation of qualification tests as necessary, including tests conducted off site.The production of accurate qualification test reports.

Preparation of materials for design reviews. Provide advice on all aspects of design and engineering to management and staff to ensure effective decision making
