Postdoctoral Fellow Opportunity - Translational Genomics

Eingestellt von Geisinger Health System

Projektbeschreibung

GEISINGER HEALTH SYSTEM IS SEEKING A HIGHLY TALENTED AND SELF MOTIVATED POST-DOCTORAL CANDIDATE TO IDENTIFY GENETIC VARIANTS THAT IMPACT ON CARDIAC DISEASE.

The Precision Medicine Initiative requires greater understanding of how individual gene variability impacts on disease diagnosis, progression, and treatment. The advertised position will exploit a newly developed pipeline for rapid identification of genetic variants that are significantly associated with clinical phenotypes. The successful candidate will conduct phenome wide association studies, derive human induced pluripotent cells carrying selected genetic variants, and perform functional analyses to uncover how particular variants contribute to the pathophysiology of cardiac disease. The candidate must possess a MD and/or PhD in a relevant field and must be highly skilled in molecular biology and cell culture techniques. Additional experience in stem cell biology and/or genome editing is highly desirable.

Geisinger Health System possesses a wealth of genotype and phenotype data on our patient population, providing rich resources for this project. The partnership with Regeneron represents one of the largest clinical-based sequencing efforts (100,000 patients) that will provide the platform for identifying novel genetic factors that contribute to cardiac disease.

How does this benefit you ?

- You will have access to large scale genomic data and clinical phenotyping resources, develop strong bioinformatic capabilities, and gain functional biology expertise
- You will benefit from close collaborative ties to translational, clinical, and pharmaceutical researchers
- You will have a unique opportunity to identify and study genetic variants with the greatest clinical and therapeutic impact

Geisinger Health System is a learning healthcare organization, serving more than 2.6 million residents throughout 44 counties in central and northeastern Pennsylvania. The physician-led system is comprised of more than 23,000 employees, including a more than 1,000-member multi-specialty group practice, nine hospital campuses, and two research centers that repeatedly receive national accolades. In addition to fulfilling its patient care mission, Geisinger has a long-standing commitment to education, research and community service.
