Plant Science Laboratory Assistant Job

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Conduct transformation experiments of soybean using established protocols, and may assist with development of new or improved methods.
- Use tissue culture procedures to maintain stock cultures and generate transgenic events and plants for analysis and seed production.
- Candidate may participate on teams involved in supporting activities such as culture initiation, equipment maintenance, media preparation, culture room maintenance, process improvement, or information management.
- Enter transformation data and sample information into the spreadsheets and databases as required.
- May be required to operate lab equipment for transformation, media preparation and glassware cleaning operations.
- Maintain a clean and safe laboratory environment and tissue culture room.
- Summarize and report on the results of their experiments or group experiments.
- Candidate will be required to handle and dispose of tissue culture waste following proper procedures.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS (MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS):

- Bachelor's degree required in plant science, biological science or related field such as horticulture or biotechnology.
- Minimum of zero to two (0 to 2) years of industry related experience, or equivalent level of relevant education and experience.
- Knowledge of plant transformation protocols and procedures.
- Demonstrated excellent aseptic technique in a laboratory environment.
- Experience in sampling plants and plant tissue cultures for molecular and/or biochemical analysis.
- Ability to maintain complete, accurate and timely records of experimental data and procedures.
- Experience with Excel spreadsheets and Lab Management databases.
- Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
- Willingness to support a high-quality laboratory environment through custodianship of equipment and strict adherence to lab safety and ergonomic practices.
- Ability to function both independently and as part of a team.
