Pharmacy Technician

Looking for a Pharmacy Technician for the NHS for an initial 2 months contract with potential extension to start immediately.

Responsibilities

*To work as part of the pharmacy team in providing an efficient, effective and safe pharmaceutical service to patients and customers.
*To deputise for the Dispensary Team Leader as necessary.
*To provide technical support to all areas of the pharmacy department including satellite areas. To support team colleagues, coaching junior staff in technical and dispensing tasks.
*To dispense and check the accuracy of dispensing in accordance with departmental and Trust standards, in conjunction with UHL clinical governance objectives and those of the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC)
*To deputise for the Dispensary Team Leader as necessary (on rotation with the other Technicians) to co-ordinate services in the dispensary areas.
*Ensuring adequate staff cover is maintained at all times in the main dispensary and satellite pharmacies as appropriate. Liaising with staff in other areas to ensure workloads and staffing levels are balanced.
*Co-ordinate flow of work through the department to optimise efficiency and maintain "turn around" target times.
*Checking the accuracy of inpatient, outpatient and discharge prescriptions dispensed by other pharmacy staff, identifying and ensuring correction of all dispensing errors or items not acceptable for release, to prevent these reaching the patient.
*Documenting errors and supporting process review and improvement to reduce internal and external error rates in accordance with clinical governance guidelines.
*Participating in the receipt, dispensing and checking of Controlled Drugs to meet the requirements of the Misuse of Drugs Act (1971) GPhC standards and department procedures.
*Dispensing of medicines as requested including extemporaneous products,cytotoxic preparations and clinical trials (where appropriate) in accordance with professional standards and good dispensing practices set out by the GPhC, all Health and Safety, Controls of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH), Guide to Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) and departmental Standard Operating Procedures.
*Dispensing of prescriptions and supplying ward/department drug stocks in accordance with professional and ethical standards laid down by the GPhC and in accordance with departmental standards and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for accuracy and timeliness.
*Issuing dispensed medication to outpatients and counselling them on the correct and safe use of their medication, to ensure that they feel well informed and comply with their medication regimen.
*To participate as a member of the dispensary team by contributing to team and service monitoring, review and development, ensuring dispensing procedures followed, standards
*achieved and improvements implemented.
*To ensure all transactions are entered accurately on to the pharmacy computer system at the time of issue in order to minimise stock discrepancies and out of stock situations.
*To assist in the maintenance of drug storage and rotation of stock. Perform expiry checks to minimise financial loss and out of stock situations.
*To participate in the training and assessment of all new staff and be a role model for trainee technicians and pre-registration pharmacists ensuring systems and procedures are understood, competency and standards achieved.
*To identify and pursue personal training and development needs with the object of improving personal performance and keeping abreast of new developments. To take responsibility for specific areas of work or projects as may be agreed from time to time in accordance with continuing professional development guidelines.
*To cover duties of absent Technicians and Assistant Technical Officers (ATOs) as required to maintain core services. To undertake other such reasonable duties as may be required from time to time.
