Perl Designer/Developer

For our end client in The Hague we are looking for a Designer/developer PERL

General description
TQCI (Top Quartile Competitive Infrastructure) delivers enabling infrastructure for Technical IT. Under the TQCI Programme umbrella a number of IT infrastructure related projects are executed. One of these is to provide complete insight in the availability of a vast volume (4+ Petabyte) of technical data files stored on technical storage (NetApp and EMC filers).

The PERL programming involves designing and developing routines ('crawlers') to build inventories of meta data of the technical data. The inventories are stored in relational databases which can be queried by data managers through a web interface. The tools will be deployed globally in 15+ locations and will have a direct impact on the containing storage cost increases by providing insight into aging of (large multi-TB) technical data files.

Scope of activities:
Design and develop data crawler for meta data collection
Optimize the existing code to reduce elapsed run times
Work in a distributed development team;
Train the support staff

Required expertise
Mandatory: min of 4-5 years PERL development experience 
Mandatory: work experience in a technical/upstream Linux environment
Mandatory: PERL development in combination with relational database (MySQL, Oracle)
Strongly recommended: Upstream experience
Recommended: Experience in working in complex organizations with global teams, ie remote/virtual collaboration

Soft skills
Mandatory: good communicator, eg being able to explain program design to development team members
