Perimeter Security Design Specialist

BACKGROUND TO ENGAGEMENT

The Perimeter Security Design Specialist contributes to the assessment of requirements impacting Perimeter Security to ensure compliance to policies, standards (quality and architectural) & operational performance, works with the Business and Partners to define the perimeter security technical specifications resulting from the business requirements.

Principal Accountabilities

- Act as the point of contact for all design and architectural reviews requiring Perimeter Security involvement. Advise and consult the Service Provider(s) & Partners on the design and implementation of technical solutions
- To appreciate industry trends and security best practices of the products in their area and understand the offerings and scope of the competition. Liaise with key stakeholders providing advice on new features of software, security policy and best practices.
- Act as Perimeter Security lead in project planning and technical forum meetings. Work with Architecture
- Provide Perimeter Security infrastructure performance and service summary reporting.
- To possess the ability to operate with own discretion, individually and as a key member of a team.
- Effectively communicate with internal customers to understand, identify and resolve their Perimeter Security requirements;
- Liaise with internal and external service providers and third parties;
- Participate in an out of hours standby rota covering the Perimeter Security infrastructure working without direct supervision and manage operational problems outside of normal working hours

NATURE AND SCOPE

- The job holder will provide design expertise during all stages of the project life cycle to ensure the environments are appropriately specified and accepted into service.
- The job holder will provide security support services including problem resolution, new service provision, service modifications and system maintenance upgrades where required.
- The job holder will be involved in assisting and advising other departments and customers where appropriate on how to make best use of deployed systems and services.
- The job holder will exploit systems and services to maximise cost benefits to the business through the use of standards, best practises, new features or software enhancements.
- The Perimeter Security Specialist will lead the technical evaluation of software packages and/or hardware products, as appropriate, and provide specialist support on the Perimeter Security environment components.
- The Perimeter Security Specialist will liaise with other organisations, eg support lines, reference sites, third party providers, supplier representatives etc, in order to meet the business needs
- The Perimeter Security Specialist may from time to time be asked to assist in the overseeing of contractors and vocational trainees, additionally deputising for the Perimeter Security Manager or Team Leader as appropriate.
- The jobholder will operate using their own discretion and possess the ability to manage projects. They will be expected to be able to work unsupervised, define and prioritise their own workload and offer assistance to less experienced team members on complex problems where appropriate.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

- Minimum of a CISSP or CISM industry-recognised security accreditation
- Educated to degree level or equivalent
- Proficient experience in a relevant technical role
- Deep technical network security knowledge and experience
- Experience in designing and implementing IT Security solutions
- Attained technical specialism and architectural experience and has experience in applying this in the definition of technical requirements, developing solutions and assisting implementation.
- Strong industry knowledge of best practices & compliance security frameworks (PCI, ISO27001, ONR
- Significant experience of scope of current technical landscape
- Demonstrable ability to take responsibility and make sound decisions on major technical and service issues;
