An opportunity has arisen for a Payroll Supervisor to join our local Government Services division based in Barnet for a 3 - 4 month contract.

Purpose of Job

To manage an efficient and accurate Payroll transactional service to employees and traded services within agreed performance levels and to comply with all statutory requirements; managing workload within team; allocating resources as required and working closing with other teams and colleagues to ensure all deadlines are met.

Act as the Payroll 'expert' within London Borough of Barnet and deputise for the HR Customer Services Manager as required.

Manage individual and team performance on a day to day basis; ensuring service level agreements are met using performance data, managing and resolving issues and service capacity issues to maximise customer service

Essential Experience/Skills:

Full membership of payroll related profession e.g. IPPM or minimum 5 years experience in managing within a payroll environment

Excellent literacy and numeracy skills with an ability to communicate at all levels of the organisation

Extensive experience of managing within Payroll environment

Very strong working knowledge of payroll legislation and good practice

Some working knowledge of best practice in HR

Experience of providing complex and timely Pay advice to all levels of an organisation.

An understanding of the role Customer Service Delivery plays in a successful shared service operation and its interactions with other HR functions across the employee life cycle

Demonstrated experience in management of workload across different channels (telephony / email etc)

An understanding of the application of SAP and other HR systems

Knowledge of statutory obligations relating to IR, NI, Pensions, SSP, SMP and Audit Commission

Very strong IT skills

* Able to fully utilise standard Microsoft Office products, SAP and work management system (HR Connect)

Very strong customer relationship and customer service skills

Ability to understand performance indicators and take action to resolve shortfalls in customer service

Ability to diagnose problems / monitor issues

Ability to work under pressure to meet key deadlines

Ability to establish rapport with customer groups

Ability to analyse information from a variety of sources and prioritise actions appropriately within timescales
