Part Time Communications Officer (Local Plan)

This role has been released on a temporary part-time basis they are looking for someone to work with the Communications Manager to protect and improve the reputation of the council during the local plan process and to explain the issues and gain widespread support for the adopted local plan.

MAIN ACCOUNTABILITIES

* To develop and implement the council's communication plan for the Maidstone Borough Local Plan.
* To research and gain a good understanding of the local plan process - including the Strategic Housing Land Availability Assessment, Strategic Housing Market Assessment, Integrated Transport Strategy and Infrastructure Delivery Plan - in order to predict and explain contentious issues and positively promote the process.
* To establish and maintain excellent working relationships with the media to gain balanced and fair coverage of the local plan.
* To be the first point of contact for enquiries from the media about the local plan, liaising with journalists and senior staff to provide the best response to enquiries.
* To write and oversee the production of information leaflets, presentations and displays for local plan events such as road shows, consultations, media briefings and photo calls.
* To organise local plan events such as road shows, consultations, media briefings and photo calls.
* To identify and write news releases, blogs and social network messages which will encourage positive coverage of the local plan.
* To monitor traditional and new media to identify and predict trends and issues so that the council can develop its communications in ways to build and maintain its reputation.

You should match the following criteria:
* Educated to A Level English or equivalent
* Recognised public relations, marketing or journalism qualification
* Working with/for the media
* Excellent written communication and editorial skills
* Ability to understand complex and varied information and interpret it clearly and simply for the benefit of others
