The primary focus of the role will be establish common practises, understanding and defining customer requirements and putting in place support and actions to meet these. You will also play a pivotal role in providing accurate, timely and reliable overhead information and analysis to the business, with supporting analysis and comment to help guide their decision making. This role is a rare change for a highly motivated individual to take on a role that has fantastic potential to expand and develop to cover further areas of the business.
Key Responsibilities and Tasks:
Support monthly overhead reviews with the department managers, ensure control of overhead costs, comparisons between actual and budget, identifying and analysing anomalies, defining actions and ensuring resolution. Ensure actions are documents to comply with ICQ (Internal Control Questionnaire) requirements.
Responsibility for the accounting of the month end overheads for the Thales business unit, review of accruals and postings by the Shared Accounting Services centre.
Create/prepare reporting requirements for the Thales businss unit including FCR (Function Cost Report), CBN (Cost by Nature) and labour reports.
Review ICQ documents for the business unit and keep a log of risks and opportunities. Ensure these are escalated to the overhead controller for the business unit.
Challenge managers with regard to Overhead performance against targets and KPI's and support action setting and decision making
Providing specific analytical reports to managers as requested
Support the annual budget process for the cost centres or business teams assigned
Support the development and maintenance of effective mechanisms for the preparation of annual budges and the production of realisable financial forecasts
Provide re-forecasts of Overheads as required for the cost centres or bushiness teams assigned.
Assist with the review and the timely provision of Cost by Nature information for the cost centres or business teams assigned.
Support the preparation of the MoD Rate calculations
Support the preparation of the labour rate calculations
Assist in the implementation of IT tools and reporting techniques when required
Adhoc tasks as requested
Skills
Essential
Experience of Overheads Accounting, MoD rate calculations
Strong Analytical skills, a tight degree of accuracy and attention to detail, whilst still being able to see the bigger picture
Solid Excel, financial modelling skills
Excellent communication and relationship building skills, both within the finance community and across the wider business
Positive person with a can do attitude
Ability to deal with change and work in a continuously improving environment
Desirable
Ideally of graduate calibre and part qualified accountant (ACCA/CIMA or equivalent)
Exposure to ERP systems such as Oracle would be advantageous
Exposure to TM1, Cognos would be advantageous
Self motivated, able to work to tight deadlines both as part of a team and individually
Proactive, open to change and able to implement this both inside finance and across the wider business
Able to deal with all levels of customer from Directors to colleagues

Demonstrate experience of a broad range of management accounting experience in a mulit-domain environment
