Background

Our Central Government client is looking to take on an Operations Security Specialist to work a three month contract based in Worthing.

A vacancy has arisen for a security specialist within the IT Live Services team to ensure IT operational security processes are in place and to work with colleagues to make sure they apply those processes.

The successful candidate will have experience of working with IT security systems preferably in a government environment and will be familiar with drafting and maintaining ITIL processes. S/he will have excellent customer relation skills and be confident to make decisions under pressure.

Strengthening the IT team is a key part of the Agency's plan to professionalise IT. Information technology embraces all of the Agency's activities and is at the heart of the core business and at the leading edge of interfaces with the public, clients and customers.

The Operations Security Specialist will be responsible for the operation and management of security aspects of all IT systems. S/he will advise, develop, implement and maintain operational security policy, plans and processes. S/he will also ensure that security metrics are agreed and that compliance is monitored and reported on issuing issue periodic security reports to Security Management.

The Operations Security Specialist will be responsible for ensuring that anti-virus protection is up to date across the department systems and monitors managed hardware, including physical Firewalls, within our network. S/he will support the development and release of new or changed IT services by assessing operational change controls and by conducting compliance tests prior to new or changed IT services going live. In addition, s/he will act as an escalation point for operations incidents and liaises with third parties on operational security matters.

Main Duties/Responsibilities

The successful candidate will:

* Develop, implement and maintain operational security policy, plans and processes

* Agree security metrics, monitor compliance and report

* Issue periodic security reports to Security Management

* Monitor and ensure that anti-virus protection is up to date across the department

* Monitor all VOA managed hardware and software, including physical Firewalls, within the department network

* Assess operational change controls for security compliance

* Assess and conduct compliance tests prior to new or changed IT services going live

* Act as an escalation point for operations incidents

* Liaise with third parties on operational security matters

* Attend regular meetings with the Security Team

* Adhere to the change control process

* Manage an Operations Security Analyst.

Skills/Experience Required

* SANS certified or similar
* ITIL Capability certificate (Or prepared to acquire both in first year in post)
* Management of third party suppliers
* Managing stakeholder and customer expectations
* Building relationships with diverse stakeholders and delivering results through collaboration

Please note that the successful candidate will be required to undergo a Basic Security Check, which is at a cost of £25.
