Operational IT Systems Developer (3 Roles)

Electricity North West plays a vital role in the region where we own, operate and maintain the electricity distribution network. It is our job to deliver a safe, reliable supply of electricity from the National Grid and keep the lights shining for over five million people.

An opportunity has arisen for three Operational IT Systems Developers to join Electricity North West's Operational IT Telemetry Systems Team on a fixed term contract basis for a minimum of two years.

The role of Operational IT System Developer involves supporting and developing the Electricity Control Systems (ECS) including the Control Room Management System, Trouble Management System and the Telecontrol system.

Principal accountabilities of the role include but are not limited to:

• Diagnosing faults on systems, monitoring system states and providing fixes, system restarts and user advice as required;

• Developing enhancements to the systems whilst adhering to strict deadlines;

• Adhering to the in-house quality control procedures for system enhancements and bug fixes.

• Providing software and hardware maintenance;

• Taking responsibility for System Architecture of systems developed to provide 2 x 7 availability.

As the successful candidate you will:

• Be educated to degree level in a relevant subject (desirable);

• Have an understanding of telemetry infrastructure and system interdependencies;

• Have extensive knowledge of IT support and development activities, encompassing the full Software Development lifecycle;

• Be knowledgeable about and experienced in:

1. C programming;

2. SQL and database management activities, ideally Ingres and MySQL;

3. UNIX / Linux and Windows operating systems;

4. Programming in web based technologies including Java, JavaScript and PHP;

5. Python scripting language. • Have experience of 4GL environments coupled with knowledge of the electricity business (desirable);

• Be experienced in technical architecture design and development for high availability systems;

• Be an excellent written and verbal communicator;

• Have excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage your own workload efficiently;

• Be an excellent problem solver;

• Be a strong team player with the ability to work using your own initiative.
Salary: £24 - £40k per annum dependent upon skills + experience Fixed Term Contract (minimum 2 years). Date posted: 23/09/2013
