Operational Excellence Consultant

My client, a leading energy provider is looking to recruit an Operational Excellence Consultant to join their team on an initial 6 month contract.

DESCRIPTION OF WORK
1. Mobilisation of SDO Projects following approval by the SDO Steering Group
2. Use the B2C Operational Excellence 4Ds approach to manage and deliver complex SDO Projects.

Projects will have the following phases:
a. Discovery
i. What is the purpose of the process?
ii. Who is the customer?
iii. What are the customer requirements?
iv. What are the KPIs?
v. Gather available data
vi. Who owns the process?
vii. Who works the process?
viii. What are the inputs & outputs?
ix. Map the high level process

b. Diagnosis
i. What does the data tell us?
ii. Map the process
iii. Perform a Value Analysis - where is the waste?
iv. Where are the failure points?
v. How does the process perform - baseline?
vi. Are there documented standards?
vii. Is performance managed?
viii. What are the improvement opportunities?

c. Design
i. Consider range of solutions to address root cause/s
ii. Design solution with input from "users"
iii. Document solution
iv. Design measurement system
v. Gain approval to pilot/roll out

d. Delivery
i. Pilot solution
ii. Review, re-design
iii. Roll out
iv. Measure performance
v. Embed

3. Prepares and maintains realistic project and quality plans and effectively estimates cost, timescales and resource requirements for the successful delivery of the project to agreed scope
4. Monitors performance against plan, and takes action where these deviate from agreed tolerances
5. Delivers project benefits (identification, tracking and realisation)
6. Provides reports to the SDO Portfolio Manager and where required, the SDO Steering Group
7. Allocation of tasks to team members and appraising individual performance against agreed objectives 8. Actively represents the SDO Project team, ensuring that effective relationships are built and maintained with the business
9. Manages risks, including the development of contingency plans
10. Liaison with the SDO Portfolio Manager and Steering Group to assure the overall direction and integrity of the SDO Project
11. Ensures that the project is formally closed and lessons learned are captured and actioned

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF PROJECT
Ability and experience of directing medium to large projects/workstreams. Extensive practical experience and track record of delivering and facilitating Lean workshops and sessions across all levels of an organisation ideally within the Service and/or Utilities sector. A comprehensive knowledge of, and proven track record in the use of, Lean skills/tools (Workplace Organisation - 5S, Process Mapping/Value Stream Mapping, Visual Management, Work Organisation (1-Piece Flow, TAKT, 3R's), Standardisation and Mentoring/Coaching). Advanced LERC accredited or Lean Sigma Master Black Belt qualified is preferable. Ability to demonstrate actual personal impact on top line (revenue) and bottom line (cost/productivity) within prior roles/businesses. Excellent leadership skills with the ability to motivate and lead others. Experience of working with business units (Customer Services, Energy Field Services, Marketing) to understand business challenges and leverage existing relationships. Agile way of working. Content focussed - able to understand the detailed challenges of a particular SDO Project and lead the project team to develop and implement a solution. Professional designation in management and/or relevant technology. Good communication and interpersonal skills. Goal orientation and action-focused. Self-disciplined. Ability to prioritise and delegate as and when required. Able to establish strong working relationships with senior stakeholders
