ABOUT AKRON CHILDRENS HOSPITAL - OPEN ACCESS NURSE PRACTITIONER SERVICE DELIVERY MODEL

Open Access Nurse Practitioners could see same day patients on a walk-in basis and potentially extend weekend hours for greater patient access in general. In addition, patients that might be normally dismissed from the practice due to high no show rates can instead be transferred to "open access" program whereby we will still be able to have some control in their care for at risk pool. Primary peak times for Open Access care include evening/weekend hours Monday through Sunday. Full time, Part time and per diem opportunities are available

POSITION DESCRIPTION:

The primary care clinic nurse practitioner is a registered professional nurse who has graduated from an accredited Nurse Practitioner program. The nurse practitioner works in a physician office or clinic in the delivery of primary care to children and adolescents. She/he works in collaboration with a physician and other members of the primary healthcare team. She/he works within the scope of practice as defined by the Ohio State law and established standards of care. She/he will always have a physician available for consultation .

QUALIFICATIONS:

- Must be able to adhere to Open Access specific work schedule †20 hours per week, evenings and weekend hours.
- Master†s or Doctoral Degree in Nursing Preferred.
- Licensed as an RN in State of Ohio, National Certification as nurse practitioner by nationally accredited organization
- Must have current certificate of authority and certificate to prescribe (or eligible) by Ohio Board of Nursing. ACLS or PALS may be required based upon practice setting
- Must obtain credentialing as an active member of medical staff and appropriate medical staff privileges
- Current Health Care Provider BLS training is required. Individuals hired without an MSN or DNP and those hired without a certificate to prescribe must actively pursue and obtain a MSN or DNP degree/certificate to prescribe
- Excellent critical thinking, self-motivation and interpersonal communication skills essential
- Must be proficient in word processing, spreadsheet and database use, and other computer software programs for data analysis, and presentation

WORKING CONDITIONS ESSENTIAL POSITION FUNCTIONS (EPF) REQUIRED:

- Majority of work is performed in an environment that is mostly clean and comfortable, but may include some annoying factors such as noise, odors or damp floors
- A minimal amount of work is performed in an environment with exposure to environmental factors of such severity as to present health problems, where such problems/injury can be prevented by use of provided protective equipment, hazard awareness and knowledge and adherence to safety guidelines
