JOB BRIEF

To be successful in your application you will have recent and relevant experience in a similar role where you have developed a good understanding of the testing process. You will be able to maintain a high level of concentration and excellent attention to detail resulting in clear and concise test results, ensuring that any defects may be easily replicated.

With excellent IT skills you will be able to create and maintain complex spreadsheets as well as ideally having previous experience using testing tools. You will have excellent communication skills both verbally and written and be able to build rapport with internal and external stakeholders.

RESPONSIBILITIES

In this role you will be part of a project team responsible for testing the new processes and systems that have been developed.

As a System Tester you will be responsible for:

- To work with the Head of Development in establishing a dedicated test function that will focus on:
- Integration testing of our end-2-end system.
- Functional regression testing (building a suite of automated regression tests).
- Non-functional testing (including performance, resilience and security testing).
- Supportability testing.
- Establishing test procedures and practices to be followed by the test function including:
- Authoring and reviewing test plans, test cases, test reports and test scripts.
- Raising issues in the issue tracking system and tracking them through to conclusion.
- Helping to assess the impact of issues found.
- Maintenance and improvement of the test environment.
- Scope and specify improvements to our existing test environment hardware.
- Scope and specify improvements to our software testing tools.
- Test automation:
- Building out test automation is a priority for the test function to enable the scaling up of the test coverage of our solution. This will need to be done in conjunction with manual and exploratory testing techniques as appropriate.
- Second line support assistance:
- The test function will provide second line assistance to the client support team, helping to reproduce customer issues internally and supporting the development team to identify the root cause efficiently.
- Stakeholder management:
- The test function will work closely with the product development team and the successful candidate will need to collaborate closely with developers, technical architects, project managers and support staff.
- Occasionally this senior test position will be expected to operate in a client facing role.

REQUIREMENTS

- Design and development of automated functional, system and integration test suites.
- Test automation experience with an awareness of available tools, techniques and processes in this area.
- Experience of integration (end-2-end) testing of complex, multi-component systems that communicate through machine-machine interfaces/APIs (eg ActiveMQ, HTTP, SOAP, JSON, RESTful).
- Experience of relational or NoSQL databases (eg MySQL, MongoDB).
- Experience of at least one Scripting language (eg Python, Perl, Ruby).
- Experience of working with and diagnosing issues on Linux based systems.
- Experience of working in an Agile/Scrum environment.
- You will be adept at self-organising, enjoy problem solving, have an attention to detail and enjoy all things technical.
- Must have experience using Apache Hive
- Should have worked with Shell scriptig and sqls.
- Datawarehouse testing skills plus basic knowledge of Oracle databases, SQL, Linux (Redhat preferred), any Scripting or programming language (bash, Shell, Perl)
- Some hands on experience in writing MapReduce jobs in Java, Pig, or Hive
- Strong Scripting/coding to automate QA processes for Java and Big Data(HDFS/HBase)
- QA Hadoop experience working on a Big Data project a plus
