Networking Equipment Test Engineer

JOB DESCRIPTION:

This position will focus on TESTING IN-HOME CUSTOMER PREMISE EQUIPMENT (CPE) provided by client to its residential subscribers for the delivery of Internet, voice, and wi-FI services.

Responsibilities will include developing and executing TEST PLANS IN A LAB ENVIRONMENT for nEW HARDWARE AND SOFTWARE RELEASES FOR MODEMS, VOICE MTAS, ROUTERS, GATEWAYS, AND WIFI EXTENDERS. Testing objectives will ensure interoperability with client's network environment as well as key OSS/BSS SYSTEMS, PARTICULARLY A TR-69 based AUTO CONFIGURATION SERVER PLATFORM currently under development.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE & SKILLS:

- EXPERIENCE WITH DOCSIS, GPON, AND/OR ETHERNET TECHNOLOGY IS ESSENTIAL.
- Experience managing NETWORK ELEMENTS WITH TR-69 based server (ACS) and client (CWMP) platforms is required.
- Knowledge of TR-69 PROTOCOL, DATA MODELS, and attributes required.
- Fluency with WIFI NETWORKING PROTOCOLS (802.11) and contemporary device characteristics for radio options, security & encryption settings, installation best practices, etc.
- Critical thinking skills that will allow the candidate to lead development of efficient test strategies and test cases, and concise recommendations on how a new hardware or software deployment may affect Cox's operations, customer experience, and commercial goals.
- Familiarity with Internet Protocol (IP) including basic routing, IPv6, and DHCP-based provisioning systems.
- Experience using Layer 2/Layer 3 network test platforms (eg Spirent Test Center) is required.
- General knowledge of other premises network technologies and media options such as MoCA, Zigbee, Bluetooth, etc.
- Candidates should have strong written communication skills to employ in documenting test plans and results, and communicating outcomes to stakeholders.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

- Ability to CREATE AUTOMATED TEST SCRIPTS AND TEMPLATES USING SCRIPTING LANGUAGES SUCH AS PERL, PHP, PYTHON, TCL, ETC.
- VOICE OVER IP (VOIP) TECHNOLOGIES AND STANDARDS, PARTICULARLY MGCP AND SIP, including feature and call testing using bulk call generators.
- Experience with HP ALM (formerly Quality Center) for test case and test plan management, results and defect tracking, etc.
