Network Support Specialist

Our client has a contract opportunity for a Network Support Specialist for six months in the Greater London area. 

Reporting to the Service Operations Manager, the successful candidate will be part of an onsite team for operational support and management of a technical system.  Key duties of the role include:

- Troubleshoot and resolve escalated technical support issues and carry out or delegate maintenance requirements.  
- Escalate and liaise with Technical Specialists and the NOC to ensure speedy resolution of incidents and root causes. 
- Monitor and action escalated incidents and root cause. Generates possible solutions and assesses each situation and makes a sound decision.  
- Work with the NOC team to recover network services in the shortest possible time by means of fallback, substitution, re-routing or other contingency methods.
- Liaise with customers to identify, understand and resolve incidents and root causes in a professional manner - Attend technical meetings and follow up on any action points
- Provide technical input advice to Support Engineers.
- Attend site to resolve hardware issues which cannot be resolved remotely
- Test and configure hot spares and associated admin tasks to update the asset database 
- Abide by and maintain knowledge of airport regulations and procedures to maintain holdership and renewal of required passes and permits
- Probes and listens carefully, presents information clearly and in the appropriate format
- Deliver project work as required by the Projects team 
- Provide statistical input to the monthly service report
- Provide support and cover for onsite service desk
- Will also be required to assist with all projects and cabling.  

To apply for this role you will need the following skills and abilities: 

- Good understanding of Cisco Ethernet devices and associated technology
- Good understanding of RF, WLAN, LAN, WAN and network protocols TCP/IP, and VPN
- Understand and use of Network Management tools including Touchpoint, Spectrum, e-Health, sys log and solar winds, BA KITE
- Good understanding and use of LAN sniffers 
- Understanding of PC networking applications
- Customer facing skills and a consistent professional approach 
- Good communication skills face-to-face, written and verbal
- Understanding of Intrusion Detection Systems
- Experience in an airline environment preferable
- Good understanding of CAT 5 wiring systems
- Ability to carry out project related tasks.
- Analytical and time management skills
- Tenacious with a methodical approach
