Network Security Engineer

Dynamic Fortune 500 organization is looking for a Network and Security Sustaining Engineer to perform evaluation testing on all hardware and software components for new voice product offerings, growth and/or other customer-specific applications.

This engineer will plan, design, and test complex data networks including individual components, and interoperability of multiple network elements. Additionally, the Engineer may perform operational efficiency reviews and develop plans for improvements as necessary.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Conducts extensive lab evaluations and integration testing of network elements and document results.

Formulates integrated voice, data, and/or video network architectures based upon demand, capacity, emerging network services, trends, and technologies

Leads major network/security deployments or teams with operations for deployments.

Develops network and security element technical specifications.
-

Manage lab environments to maintain a secure test bed and evaluate security controls during application design/test phases.

Develop Standard MOPs, Work Packages, approved SW versions, assembling change requests for tested configurations and evaluating the feasibility and appropriateness other change requests as submitted.

Create documentation supporting new deployments and existing Legacy infrastructure

MINIMUM

-

Advanced knowledge in ALL PACKET BASED PROTOCOLS such as TCP/IP, MPLS and ROUTING PROTOCOLS such IS-IS, RIP, IGRP, EIGRP, OSPF, BGP4, Advanced knowledge of LAN Switching architecture, design and implementation. Must be an EXPERT IN FUNDAMENTAL IP/ETHERNET NETWORKING (ie ARP, broadcast storms, L2 Loop avoidance mechanisms, etc.)

5+ YEARS OF EXPERIENCE IN NETWORK SECURITY

STRONG UNDERSTANDING OF THE OSI MODEL
-

UNDERSTANDING OF NETWORK SECURITY CONTROLS, INCLUDING FIREWALLS, ACLS, IPS/IDS, AND APPLICATION GATEWAYS
-

EXTENSIVE EXPERIENCE WITH JUNIPER FIREWALLS, NG-FIREWALLS, NETWORK AND SWITCHING EQUIPMENT

Experienced in the design and operation of Cisco and Juniper network products and Cisco IOS and JUNOS software. Clear understanding of modern Router architecture (control plane and forwarding plane separation, switch fabric design, egress queuing, IP lookup algorithms).

Experience in general computing functions and IC properties (ie Ternary CAM, DRAM, SRAM, NVRAM, CPU multi-threading, interrupts, CPU efficiency)

Experienced well-rounded Telecommunications Engineer. Ability to understand Physical and Data-link layer media properties and implications as they relate to network architecture (ie fiber optics, PSTN, HFC, DOCSIS, PON, RF, etc.)

Background in lab testing methodology and requirements
