Systems Analyst/Engineer
Location: Birmingham, Alabama
Contract - 6-12 months (potential for perm)
Openings - 1-3
Pay rate: $28-32/hr
Highly Desired: BS Degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Science

Summary of Position Duties
This position is responsible for the monitoring and front line diagnosis and problem resolution of the computer based system. This position is part of a 24x7x365 staff that provides frontline communications, monitoring, support, diagnosis, resolution and coordination with Management Systems department personnel for second tier support. This position is on a rotating 12 hour shift, including nights, weekends and holidays. Monitoring of these systems is critical as they control the power grid to prevent rolling blackouts in a multi-state region.

Job Requirements/Preferences (Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills)
Required: Formal education in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or a related field is preferred.  Equivalent experience in Real Time Management System environments and technologies will be considered.
Requires excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively in both an oral and written manner
Ability to apply technical skills and appropriate judgment to troubleshoot issues
Ability to multitask and prioritize tasks based on criticality and operational impact to the Bulk Power system.
Ability to follow and properly apply both Management System Department Change Management and Management System Operations Center procedures
  Working knowledge of Windows based operating System required
  Working knowledge of Solaris, AIX or other UNIX based operating system required
Minimum of 2 years experience with Windows or UNIX - UNIX experience preferred
  Working knowledge of distributed computer networks including but not limited to: Routers, Switches, hubs and Firewalls.
Ability to build and maintain relationships with key customers, IT Helpdesk personnel, and IOC personnel
Ability to work days, nights, weekends and holidays as a part of a rotating shift with varying hours

Job Responsibilities
Day to day monitoring of Management System 2000 and ancillary Management System for health and availability
Front line problem resolution and coordination of repairs with Management System Department Personnel
Follow front line problem resolution procedures outlined by Management System Department personnel in the case of system maintenance or outages
Notification of key customers for the coordination of system outages and events that may impact other critical areas of the Bulk Power system.
Provide input to the Team Lead and Supervisor on continual process improvement and customer feedback
Thoroughly track and document cases to completion with the help of Management System Department personnel
Implement Management System policies to ensure 24 hour secure access to data centers containing Management System computer equipment
Day to day monitoring and support of Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery
Successful background check and drug screening is required prior to employment
Dedication to work within the federal regulated utility environment - adherence to all FERC regulations including but not limited to Cyber Infrastructure Protection (CIP) requirements. Training will be required prior to system access being provided.
