Currently seeking an SC cleared Network Installation Engineer, to be based on site in Telford, Shropshire on a contract duration of 12 months, to be confirmed by the client.

Due to the nature of the role and the time scale and requirements issued by the client, candidates have been asked to hold current SC level security clearance for this role.

ROLE OVERVIEW

Active Install Engineer (AIE) is a technical role which includes survey and installation functions for active network infrastructure. Due to the nature of the role there is a requirement for extensive travel throughout the UK, some European travel may be required.

DAY TO DAY RESPONSIBILITIES

The Active Install Engineer is responsible for implementing a customer’s requirement from request through to acceptance of the implemented installation. The work encompasses the active network equipment but requires a good understanding of the passive network elements.

To be able to successfully understand a customer’s requirement, work as a team or alone with the customer to understand the requirement and to design the network accordingly. The AIE will ensure that the customer’s requirement is correctly documented and can be achieved technically. 

- The solutions will be required for new and existing networks.
- The designs that require passive changes will be produced in-conjunction with approved sub-contractors.    
- Risk and Impact analysis skills will also be required.
- For design approval the AIE will produce network topology, rack and room layout diagrams, patching plans and fibre utilisation scripts.
- The AIE will be provided with the equipment to complete the install.
- The AIE will be required to install the active device(s) and handover to live support.
- To work within a team to provide LAN solutions, this will include working with peers and mentoring and guidance to other Network Engineers.

ESSENTIAL SKILLS

- Customer Focused
- Experience of Cisco LAN Switches preferably qualified to at least CCNA. Shall be knowledgeable on the following range of Switches deployed consists 6500, 3750 and 3560 and their installation requirements.
- Experience of HP edge Switches preferably HP Switches will be 5500 and 5120 range.
- Other equipment includes APC UPS, Packet shapers, Steelheads and McAfee IPS. Basic knowledge of these devices will be required
- Must have a working knowledge of JSP 480.
- Produce design information for the installation of equipment, and to record the design.The designs must be to the quality required by the customer.
- To understand the requirements of the physical network and the impact it will have on the network design. To be able to convey the requirements to passive installers and the customer.
- To provide an accurate assessment of all the active and passive components required to complete the installation, excluding the fixed cabling infrastructure.
- Must be able to install network configurations via a CLI interface working alone and in a team.
- Will be able to diagnose network installations issues.
- Must be able to install equipment and patch cables to produce a neat appearance.
- Shall work to current Health and Safety practices for passive and active installs.
- Must be able to produce accurate and detailed information for network installations.
- Must be able to produce coherent reports to management teams.
- Valid Driving License required and the ability to work across the UK and Germany.
- The work requires a flexible and can do attitude.
- Must be able to work under pressure
- Must be able to plan workload and achieve timescales required by the programme.

DESIRABLE SKILLS

- HP ATP Flexnetworking Solutions v1( HP Comware) qualification would be desireable.
- CISCO CCNA qualification would be desireable.
- A good understanding of the customer’s environment.
- Experience of passive install designs including external and internal work.
- Knowledge of APC UPS, McAfee IPS, Riverbed Steelhead and Bluecoat Packeteer equipment.
- An appreciation of JSP 440 requirements in respect of networking
- An understanding of the existing ATLAS network and communications network solutions.
- To be able to mentor other team members and provide guidance to less experienced team members to enable them to carry out their tasks.
