Network Engineer - NV2

As the Network Engineer you will be responsible for escorting personnel at various government locations across Canberra.

Additionally, supervise any changes made to the network and ensure they comply with this agency's standards.

Ensure changes made to the network are approved for change, and be available on site at short notice for a minimum of 2 hours with no guaranteed set hours per week (as per casual employment).

Extensive knowledge and experience in the design, configuration, management and support of the infrastructure products that make up the network.

Listed below are the major skill categories with their associated key products. In each category, it is assumed that the applicant has an understanding of routing, switching and encryption principles.

Knowledge and experience in the network design and management of multiple vendor networking product suites to a complexity found within a large government agency network operating environment.

An in-depth knowledge of IT security requirements and regulations and its application across the network.

It is anticipated that you will demonstrate high order skills in one or more of the following:

- Routing and Switching protocols
- QOS principles, protocols and standards
- MPLS principles, protocols and standards
- WAN acceleration technologies
- VOIP and video conferencing protocols and standards.
- Commercial encryption equipment and standards
- Network management including:
- SNMP/MIBS
- Windows skills
- VMware
- Unix/Solaris skills (desirable)
- Scripting languages
- A good understanding of all other components of an SOE
- Type 1 encryption equipment and standards.

- Juniper routing equipment
- Avaya/Nortel switch equipment
- Alcatel Telephone systems
- Tandberg/Cisco Video Conferencing
- Post and Hub Satellite hardware
- Internet Gateway infrastructure.
- Enterprise Management Systems including Network Node Manager, Network Automation, CACTI, and Network Vantage applications,
- Type 1 encryption equipment
- Commercial encryption equipment
- WAN acceleration technologies
- ISDN and voice compression standards.

Interpersonal skills including communication, ability to work in team environment, liaison and negotiation skills with sound judgment, flexibility and self motivation.
