Network Engineer - Int

JOB DESCRIPTION:

PRE CHANGE:

1.Monitor the  Remedy SR queue for Checker engagement

2.Pull SR details from the  Remedy system and validate content, format, and completeness of change related details. Activities include but are not limited to:

a)Check that as-build documentation is in the correct template format

b)Check for all devices that are being impacted by the change are documented

c)Check for configuration scripts are present

d)Validate scope of SR

e)Verify the SR severity and priority is classified as defined by the  change management policy

3.Collect baseline configuration prior to the change. (Confirm config is in SWARM)

4.Collect pre-health check baseline information

a)Test that specific VLANs are working by performing a ping sweep (compare before and after). Take into account that you could notice a slight decrease in IP's after equipment reloads

b)Check trunk status

c)Check interface status

d)Check VTP status

e)Confirm routing protocols are working. OSPF, BGP

f)Verify general physical health of the equipment. power supplies, fans, modules

g)Trace route to data centers with information provided by the  implementation engineer

h)Check Verizon monitoring tools including  whiteboard for alarms and outages

CHANGE EXECUTION:

Be available on-call during the cut on an as-needed basis.

POST CHANGE:

1. Conduct a post-change health check as applicable and compare pre-change baseline information to post change information including but not limited to:

a) Test that specific VLANs are working by performing a ping sweep (compare before and after). Take into account that you could notice a slight decrease in IP's after equipment reloads

b) Check trunk status

c) Check interface status

d) Check VTP status

e) Confirm routing protocols are working. OSPF, BGP

f) Verify general physical health of the equipment. power supplies, fans, modules

g) Trace route to data centers with information provided by the  implementation engineer

h) Check Verizon monitoring tools including  whiteboard for alarms and outages

2. Required remediation will be communicated back to implementation engineer for follow-up.

ACCEPTANCE

The SR will be closed to billing once the change is completed. If the change is backed out and rescheduled,  would request checker role support via a new SR

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:

3-5 years network engineering

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

Network Operations experience/Cisco Certification (CCNA or higher)

SKILLS TO BE SUCCESSFUL IN THIS ROLE:

Strong network troubleshooting skills/confidence in raising issues with other engineers/willingness to take ownership and accountability of implementations

Oregon or Colorado

TANDARD WORK HOURS: Most hours will be 9PM-5AM
