Network Engineer - 5 Month Contract (S26)

Esteemed Government Organisation are looking for a Network Engineer.

Responsbilities:

1. Coach or mentor less experienced members of the team under the supervision of the team leader.
2. Respond promptly to approved requests for additional network infrastructure as well as configuration change requests required to Ethernet Switches/Content Switches/ASA firewalls/DNS records and DHCP entries and TDM or IP-based telephone systems in accord with standard ITS change and release procedures.
3. Respond promptly and effectively to network related incidents impacting IT service delivery within the business and act as a point of technical escalation for more complex technical incidents.
4. Critically analyse complex technical alternatives to needs/problems, and contribute proactively to strategic and tactical planning for the IT Infrastructure area in this context.
5. Provide technical leadership to the design, development and implementation of solutions within the communications network to meet complex application requirements.
6. Manage or provide technical leadership for projects to upgrade, improve or expand the wired and wireless network infrastructure and associated voice and data services.
7. Undertake administration and day-to-day maintenance of various network devices such as DNS/DHCP/RADIUS/Proxy servers, PABXes, IP-Tel servers, voicemail/ACD/call-accounting servers, and network and/or PABX management systems.
8. Monitor and measure the state and performance of all elements of the wired and wireless network infrastructure and respond pro-actively to any potential or actual reliability or performance issues.
9. Provide leadership in the development of documentation of the communications network environment and its associated standards and operating procedures.
10. Provide expert advice and/or provide consultancy within the business in relation to data and voice network technologies.
11. Liaise with external providers in regard to the installation, maintenance and repair of the UWS data and voice networks.
12. Provide technical leadership in the design, implementation and testing of disaster recovery plans for network services.

Selection Criteria:
1. A relevant tertiary qualification or equivalent industry experience in current generation data and/or voice networking.
2. An understanding of the ITIL framework or the ability to rapidly acquire a sound understanding of the ITIL framework.
3. Extensive recent experience in installing, configuring, fault-finding and documenting complex large-scale current generation data/voice communications networks; and with Ethernet switching/routing equipment (Cisco preferred), wireless networking equipment (Nortel) and server-based network control software (Unix/Linux platform preferred) and/or with private telephone network systems (TDM and IP-based). In dealing with external providers and monitoring their performance.
