Network Engineer

Our client in Brussels is currently looking for a NETWORK ENGINEER to join the TELECOMS DEPARTMENT.

The NETWORK ENGINEER will provide support and expertise regarding the NETWORK SYSTEMS (LAN, WAN).

Duration: 1 year

Scope of work:

As a member of the Data Communications and Telecommunications Department, responsibilities of this mission include the following:

- Supports the global enterprise with technical expertise in networking and data communications.
- Provides technical and administrative assistance in the design, implementation and support of the network infrastructure.
- Maintains advanced knowledge of existing hardware and software to maximize performance and business value.
- Maintains and provides written documentation on periodic intervals

The main duties and responsibilities are:

- Assist in design/deployment of network solutions.
- Troubleshoot network equipment and circuit problems.
- Maintain documentation on the network inventory
- Produce usage/performance reports from network as required
- Work with staff to verify the accuracy of data communications expenses and resolve any disputes
- Suggest ways to reduce data communications operating costs while extending service
- Work with international staff to maintain service and deploy network solutions
- Provide documentation and updated drawings on a timely basis
- Develop and suggest enhancements to current standards
- Works as team member, proactively troubleshooting problems
- Manage external services
- Provide oral and written presentations to project teams and managers.
- Based in Drogenbos, Belgium
- Up to 25% of person's time would be travelling.
- Flexible working hours (ie availability off hours is required)

Requirements:

- Degree in information technologies or 2-4+ years directly related experience.
- Troubleshooting: Hardware, Firmware/Software, OS's, switch configuration
- TCP/IP ROUTING- RIP, OSPF, IGRP, EIGRP, BGP
- LAN- Ethernet, fiber and copper wiring standards, 802.1d spanning-tree, EtherChannel, VTP, 802.1q
- WAN- 56k, ISDN, T1, E1, Frame Relay, ATM, PPP, HDLC, Quality of Service, wiring standards
- Network Analyzers - OSI model, decode packets, understand and troubleshoot production problems
- Network Management, SNMP, Wireless LAN/MAN technologies, Virtual Networks.
- Demonstrated advanced network troubleshooting/problem determination a must.
- Experience in dealing with vendors on the phone.
- Demonstrated experience working with international sites and vendors
- Excellent interpersonal, written, oral, and organizational skills.
- Ability to meet deadlines and workll with tight deliverable time frames.
- Must enjoy working a fast-paced environment and dealing with a varied user base.
- Well versed in Visio, Microsoft Project, Word, Excel and Access.
- Must be able to lift computer equipment up to 20 kg
- Hands on analyst or support experience with networks, Routers and Switches.
- Hands on experience with DNS/DHCP is a plus.
- Hands on experience with Polycom HDX is a plus.
- Ability to communicate technical ideas and issues with large project teams and/or non-technical project managers
