Network Engineer

Technical Expert role within Data Centre Networks is to ensure maximum availability of the internal and external Hosting networks. The position is a technical expert in IP Networking (switching, routing, load balancing) and the role will be to provide L3 support for the Internal and External Hosting networks that Data Centre Networks operate, involving timely resolution of complex incidents, finding root cause during problem analysis, release (change) management, life cycle management and proactively improving our networks and the way we operate.
The role will require knowledge transfer and mentoring to team members for complex implementations to ensure supportability.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

- DIAGNOSE AND RESTORE COMPLEX ISSUES WITH THE NETWORK INFRASTRUCTURE OPERATED BY DATA CENTRE NETWORKS.
- Perform proactive problem management of IP Networks to remove "timebombs" and maximise availability.
- Develop and deliver technical training to colleagues within the team and for other workgroups.
- Ensure new platforms are integrated into the group according to the standard operational support processes.
- Liaise with vendors and Network Engineering groups to obtain assistance in resolving complex technical issues.
- Mentor trainees and provide a high level of technical assistance to the team.
- Ensure compliance to Change Management Guidelines.
- Ensure compliance with Security Guidelines.
- Develop efficiency improvements into tasks.
- Maintain and foster relationships between Engineering and Customer Design teams.
- Work closely with peers and workgroups within Hosting and Gateway Operations.
- Other duties as reasonably directed

Key Requirements:

- 5 YEARS+ EXPERIENCE IN A 3RD LEVEL NETWORK OPERATIONS ROLE SPECIFICALLY SUPPORTING MULTI-TIERED, FIREWALLED AND LOAD BALANCED HOSTING NETWORKS.
- 5 YEARS+ EXPERIENCE WITH EACH OF THE FOLLOWING TECHNICAL SKILLS:
- STRONG CISCO L2/L3 SWITCHING, ROUTING AND PRODUCT KNOWLEDGE.
- STRONG UNDERSTANDING OF LOAD BALANCING TECHNIQUES, AND HARDWARE, NAMELY F5 BIGIP LTM & GTM.
- STRONG UNDERSTANDING OF JUNIPER ROUTING & SWITCHING AND PRODUCT KNOWLEDGE.
- STRONG UNDERSTANDING OF TCPIP NETWORKING CONCEPTS AND PROTOCOLS.
- STRONG ABILITY TO LOGICALLY TROUBLESHOOT COMPLEX TECHNICAL ISSUES.
- STRONG UNDERSTANDING OF BGP ROUTING PROTOCOLS.
- ABILITY TO PERFORM PACKET CAPTURES AND ANALYSIS NETWORK TRACES. (EG. SNIFFER PRO, ETHEREAL)
- EXPERIENCE IN OTHER NETWORKING TECHNOLOGIES/PROTOCOLS SUCH AS VPNS, PIX FIREWALLS, NETCACHES, MPLS, MULTICASTING, VLANS/SPANNING-TREE. - Good understanding of server technologies, including virtual Servers, VMWare.
- Exposure or understanding of Cloud Computing concepts.
- Cisco Certifications (CCNA, CCNP, CCIE etc).
- ITIL Foundations Certificate.
- A strong Customer focus.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proven ability to manage multiple time critical projects.
- Proactive work ethic.
- Proven ability to mentor staff and provide technical knowledge transfer.
- Available to work after hours as reasonably required, both for planned work and on-call support.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision
