Net Software Developer

Background

Our Central Government client is looking to take on a .NET Developer to work a 4 month contract based in Bristol.

Our clientis responsible for a wide variety of tasks under planning, housing, environment, highways and allied legislation. Most of our work relates to the consideration of appeals against the decisions of local authorities on planning applications.

The department has several projects underway to update the applications used to support the processing of appeals casework.

In particular:
* 'Project A' is replacing the internal appeals casework management system with a new system based on Open Text's Content Server 10, with some bespoke functionality and interfaces to be developed using Microsoft's .NET framework. The project is in its initial development stages.
* 'Project B' is replacing the online appeals website used by external customers to submit appeals and associated documentation, to search for cases and view appeal decisions. Much of the design and development work has completed, although there is some outstanding activity to complete the remaining development and test activities to achieve sign-off. We require some technical assistance by way of an experienced .net developer (contractor) to work with the development team to assist on the above projects.

Main Duties

The contractor will provide experienced knowledge of web development using ASP.NET and C# development. The exact split of work between the various projects will depend on the requirements of department.

The contractor will work as part of the internal development team on the following activities:

* carry out technical development in ASP.NET, C# and SQL;
* liaise with testers and business analysts to resolve identified application development issues;
* liaise with system administrator/DBA/network team to resolve identified application deployment/environmental issues;
* provide skills transfer to in-house development team

Outputs/Deliverables
The contractor will carry out development activities on specific projects and to timescales (for individual tasks) agreed with the relevant development manager. The detailed activities and timescales will be agreed following appointment of the individual, but are expected to include development, unit testing, fixes and potentially, assisting with releases to other environments.

Skills/Experience
The successful applicant will demonstrate the following essential skills:
* Thorough knowledge and experience of developing web applications using C#.net, web services and SQL;
* Familiarity with, and experience of, developing solutions using SQL Server 2008 and .net 4;
* System Administration experience (to include IIS configuration)
* Familiarity and experience in using Windows Communication Foundation (WCF);
* Ability to resolve technical issues and demonstrate good problem solving skills;
* Strong communication skills, and ability/experience in carrying out skills transfer to less experienced developers;
* A minimum of 5 years C# .NET development experience;

The following skills are desirable:
* Familiarity and experience in using Model view controller (MVC); A working knowledge of infrastructure & networks
