MR - Application Architect (Web)

POSITION DESCRIPTION:

Projects INCLUDE WEB ANALYTICS, STREAMING VIDEO, LIVE SCORING, TEMPLATE-DRIVEN PUBLISHING, DESIGN IMPLEMENTATION, PROTOTYPING, SOCIAL MEDIA INTEGRATION, AND AUTOMATED SYNDICATION OF CONTENT. The technology stack is a mix of platforms developed in-house, as well as an ever-increasing commitment to open source technologies.

DUTIES:

* ARCHITECTS WEB PUBLISHING SYSTEMS, APPLICATIONS, AND MICRO-SITES across NBA, NBA team sites, and NBA mobile.

* Mentors web developers on technical issues and modern WEB DEVELOPMENT BEST-PRACTICES AND SOLUTIONS ARCHITECTURE AND IMPLEMENTATION

* Assists web developers in TEMPLATE DEVELOPMENT, TESTING, DEBUGGING, INTEGRATION, AND DEPLOYMENT IN ACCORDANCE WITH INDUSTRY BEST PRACTICES and specific internal procedures and standards.

* Contributes to task identification and work effort estimates for development and maintenance activities.

* Participates in the analysis, definition, and scoping of efficient, cost effective APPLICATION SOLUTIONS AND ARCHITECTURE.

* Consistently meet or exceed project deadlines.

* Work with other internal technical teams to ARCHITECT SCALABLE SOLUTIONS.

* Research new technologies; Provide analysis of technology impact and performance metrics; Guide implementation of new technologies

* Provides 2nd tier on-call support as needed.

* Performs related duties as requested.

QUALIFICATIONS:

* 7-10 YEARS EXPERIENCE DEVELOPING DYNAMIC WEB APPLICATIONS ON UNIX/LINUX

* Ability to analyze and troubleshoot complex problems and provide solutions to developers

* Ability to gather information, analyze results, and correctly assemble results into a proper summary of events, with logical proposal for solutions

* THOROUGH UNDERSTANDING OF THE WEB, specifically as it relates to browser capabilities and limitations.

* Extensive knowledge of UNIX SYSTEMS, networking technologies, WEB DEVELOPMENT TOOLS AND TECHNIQUES.

* Deep understanding of performance tuning, and troubleshooting

* Familiarity with the problems of scale engineering for large integrated systems.

* Familiarity with scaling issues of synchronous and asynchronous processes and systems.

* Familiarity with scaling issues of transactional and multithreaded processes and systems.

* Demonstrated ability to utilize network management and analysis tools.

* Thorough knowledge of WEB TECHNOLOGIES/LANGUAGES - Javascript/jQuery - AJAX - HTML - CSS - XML

* Extensive knowledge in two or more of the following languages - Java - Scala - Ruby - C - C++ - Objective C

* Experience with LARGE SCALE DATA-DRIVEN WEB DEVELOPMENT.

* Experience with one or more of the following no-SQL data stores
- Risk
- MongoDB
- CouchBase (Couch/Membase)
- Casandra.

Experience with one or more of the following search/analytics engines
- Autonomy IDOL
- Elastic Search
- Solr.

Analytical and critical thinking skills, as well as strong attention to detail..
Good interpersonal skills, and written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to prioritize multiple tasks effectively.
Ability to think outside of the box for solutions to new and ongoing issues.
Experience operating a high-traffic website with advanced caching technologies.
Experience in all web site and application development life cycle.
Previous leadership experience in a web application or development environment.
