Mortgage Underwriter - Glasgow - 3 months

I am looking to recruit a Mortgage Underwriter for a period of 3 months initially based in Glasgow working for my Major Financial Services client.

The purpose of the role will be to analyse and interpret a range of information to ensure we act as a responsible lender whilst delivering an outstanding customer service.

You will be responsible for reviewing and assessing mortgage lending propositions which fall outside of standard lending criteria whilst keeping our customers fully appraised of progress and requirements. Underwriting decisions will be quality focused and display a balanced commercial and customer centric view. The role will appeal to candidates who have strong analytical and auditing skills with a firm grasp on maths.

Key Responsibilities:
To approve referred mortgage applications within a defined underwriting mandate and in line with the client's lending policy including Fraud and Anti Money Laundering procedures.
Ensure that all actions have a minimal impact on risk management
Handle calls relating to the underwriting policy and criteria queries
Prioritise workloads
Undertake quality monitoring and sampling, identifying training requirements and providing desk side support where required
Process customer information within agreed policy and procedures to the required service and quality standards
Provide a high quality customer focused service
Receiving and handling customer queries effectively
Maintaining personal development records to ensure appropriate skills and knowledge are maintained to meet objectives
Ensure compliance are within the standards specified by the FSA and the other codes of conduct , specifically relating to Treating Customers fairly

Resolves conflicts and problems as appropriate taking decisions without referral where possible
Handles confidential and sensitive information discreetly
Dedicated, loyal, driven and professional Business awareness to assist others, utilising a knowledge of business benefit and cost implications
Experience:
Proven experience in Mortgage Underwriting
Relevant professional qualifications preferred eg CeMAP, FPC
Good working knowledge of software packages eg Microsoft Word & Excel, Access
Good working knowledge of all relevant statutory and regulatory frameworks
