Mobile Billing Design Engineer

Reporting to: Mobile Billing Manager

Purpose

The primary purpose of this role is to carry out the development, configuration and testing of various in house solutions for small scale projects within the wider Mobile Billing Team structure, and to support more Senior Engineers in the execution of larger scale projects.

It will be necessary to work across a broad range of project tasks, supported by more Senior Engineers for initial analysis and design, with responsibility for development/configuration and documentation supporting live implementation. It will also be necessary to work across all the various systems that are managed by the wider Mobile Billing Team.

Key Responsibilities

The key responsibilities of this role include:
Working as part of a cross-functional project team
Developing an understanding of the various Systems under Mobile Billing responsibility, including: CSGI Singl.eView (SV) v6 Customer Management and Billing, Ericsson Charging System v3 aka IN (supporting Prepay Rating), Openet Fusionworks (FW) platform (supporting Real Time Data rating for Prepay and Postpay) and Digital Route MediationZone (MZ) v5 platform. Mentoring/Training will be provided as appropriate.
Carrying out Unix Shell, Perl Script, SQL and PL/SQL development tasks
Carrying out small scale Scripting and simple Mediation Workflow development on the MZ Platform
Supporting minor Configuration on Systems supported by the Team eg Business As Usual (BAU) tasks
Producing appropriate documentation including design specs, test specs, and release notes
Taking responsibility for Unit/Integration/System Test for internally developed/configured components
Supporting defect resolution, by diagnosing and resolving problems in Meteor's mediation and rating/charging environments (primarily in Dev & Test Environments) with appropriate use of Defect Management Tools (HP Quality Centre)
Supporting Site Acceptance Test of Vendor Deliverables (across all Systems)
Carrying out Software Configuration Management using SubVersion (for all version controlled artefacts)
Implementing Documentation Version control using Microsoft Sharepoint

Profile

The ideal candidate will have over three years relevant software development industry experience and a degree in IT or Engineering. They will have a general understanding of the telecommunications industry with particular emphasis on mobile telephony. The ideal candidate will have strong UNIX skills, Oracle SQL and a solid programming background. They will need to be able to work well in a team, but also be able to take initiative and work on individual projects. They will need to have had exposure to a structured system development life cycle, and will have solid analytical skills and problem solving abilities.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

The candidate must have:

Good software development skills acquired in a Scripting language such as Shell, Perl, and/or a programming language such as Visual Basic, C or Java.
Experience of software development in a UNIX environment, and ideally some exposure to Windows based development for Scripting using Excel.
Ability to take an organised, systematic, disciplined and analytical approach to designing, problem solving, coding and defect fixing.
High level knowledge of the testing process, and good ability to set test objectives to ensure successful validation of deliverables, both Internal and from a Vendor (prior to delivery to Independent Test)
Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to both positively lead debate with relevant stakeholders and other Engineers, and explain complicated processes and concepts to non-experts.
Ability to take initiative and work productively on own with minimum supervision.
