University Information Technology is York's central information technology services organization, created on July 1st through the merger of Computing and Network Services (CNS) and Finance and Administration Information Technology Services (ITS). UIT exists to provide a wide range of information technology services to York's faculty, staff and students in support of the University's academic, research and administrative goals.

PLEASE NOTE: THIS IS A TEMPORARY CONTRACT TO FEBRUARY 29, 2016

Reporting to the Manager, Client Technical Services the incumbent provides IT hardware and software technical support for central, and local academic, administrative and business desktop computer hardware, operating systems and related applications. Support includes the setup and troubleshooting of hardware, software, systems and other related applications and components.

KNOWLEDGE:
BASIC SKILLS REQUIRED IN THE FOLLOWING:
Operating Systems: Linux; Database Management: Microsoft Access; Local Area Networks: Microsoft Server (NT to 2003).

INTERMEDIATE SKILLS REQUIRED IN THE FOLLOWING:
OPERATING SYSTEMS: MAC OS (10.7 to 10.9x); PROGRAMMING LANGUAGES: Variety of Languages eg JavaScript, Batch Scripting, PHP, HTML, VBscripting); DATABASE MANAGEMENT: Oracle, Microsoft SQL;

APPLICATION PACKAGES:
Conferencing Systems, eg, First Class, WebCT, Web Design, eg, Dreamweaver, Incident tracking, eg, Remedy;Antivirus (eg. Symantec); COMMUNICATIONS: Communications software (eg. Citrix, Cisco VPN, Multicasting); LOCAL AREA NETWORKS: Active Directory, Citrix, Network Print Management; UTILITIES: (eg. Revrdist, PCR Dist, DIP (eg. Picture Taker, D-ploy Centre), SCCM 2007, 2012, SCCM Remote Tools.

ADVANCED SKILLS REQUIRED IN THE FOLLOWING:
Operating systems: Microsoft Windows (XP, 7); Application Packages: Word Processing (eg Word), Spreadsheets (eg Excel), Schedulers (eg Lotus Notes), Email (eg Netscape, Outlook, Pine, Lotus Notes), Browsers, eg, Firefox, Window IE, Safari, Chrome.

Education:
University degree in Computer Science or equivalent such as a Community College Diploma in Computer Science and 1 year of current and direct experience in addition to the minimum years of experience required listed below and Microsoft Certified professional (MCP).

Experience:
2 years current and direct experience in providing IT hardware and software technical support. Preference will be given to those with current and relevant experience delivering support to commercial/retail operations and to those with applied knowledge and experience with SCCM.

good written communications skills; Excellent oral communication skills to elicit accurate information and respond quickly and efficiently to inquiries; teaching and instructing others in the use of hardware and software systems; Persuasiveness; working effectively as a member of a team; Exercising tact and diplomacy; strong service orientation to deal calmly and effectively with people when evaluating, implementing and modifying computerized systems; Attending accurately to details; meeting short/long term deadlines; setting priorities and working effectively under pressure of high volume; Ability to keep up to date with computer system developments; good organizational skills; maintaining confidentiality; Ability to install and configure, support and trouble-shoot Servers.
