Our public sector client requires a Media Relations Manager for an immediate start based in Central London. The role will run to March 2014.

Purpose of the Role:
The main purpose of this role is to manage and maintain relations with media in line with the Client communications strategy, as part of the Client press office.

In addition, the successful applicant may need to contribute to wider external relations activity including speeches and briefings, stakeholder engagement, internal communications, strategic communications and social media.

Experience Essential:
- Significant demonstrable Public relations and Press experience, ideally gained within the private sector or public relations consultancy as well as a government communications department
- Experience of managing multiple projects simultaneously
- Experience of dealing with the media on a day to day basis
- Good knowledge of how media organisations operate across print/broadcast/online
- Experience of wider communications disciplines such as public affairs, stakeholder relations, internal communications and marketing and campaigns

Media duties:
- Ensure that the work of the Client is clearly understood by media through phone, face to face and written contact
- Create and implement media engagement plans to maximise positive coverage, including:

o developing communications plans, setting clear milestones and managing the delivery of a project or a workstrand in order to meet such milestones
o identifying which press materials are needed - such as press releases, QA, briefing sheets
o providing quality assurance throughout a project including all media materials are factually correct and have been cleared and approved to deadline
o proactively identifying and managing reputational risks and opportunities regarding a project and taking appropriate action to mitigate such risks, and maximise opportunities
- Advise senior colleagues across the Organisation on media strategies appropriate to their work or project.
- Develop and implement strategies for raising awareness of Client's issues and campaigns
- Work closely in partnership with Communications colleagues to deliver effective PR for Client campaigns.
- Maintain and further develop mature and trusting relationships with the media including regular catch-ups with existing and new contacts
- Provide timely and appropriate media monitoring to senior staff on a regular basis
- Sharing out of hours press office cover

Wider duties:
- Deliver strategic communications through working closely with other colleagues in the external relations team and wider communications team to ensure a joined up approach to the management of issues
- strategic communications advice to policy and enforcement teams around the office
- Support the Client stakeholder strategy and organise events and roundtables as required
- Contribute to speech writing, reports and briefings as required
- Contribute to internal communications as required
- Contribute to the development of systems, processes and protocols appropriate to the functioning of a highly effective external relations team
