Description :
The Deer Initiative () is looking for a graduate media and communications assistant.
The Deer Initiative Partnership, was established in 1995 to promote the sustainable management of wild deer in England, and was extended to Wales in 1999. They are a broad partnership of statutory, voluntary and private organisations with a shared vision for the sustainable management of wild deer.
This is an exciting opportunity for an individual to join a growing conservation charity to help further develop internal communications and build on regional and national media profile. The post will suit either a conservation professional who wants to gain exposure to the world of media and politics or a media graduate who wishes to get involved in the conservation arena.

Reporting to the Executive Director, the post-holder will be primarily responsible for:
Updating and delivering the Corporate Communications Plan (with support from the Executive Director and external consultants).
Establishing a coherent database of Partner resources and building relationships with the relevant media and communications teams.

In addition the post holder will be expected to:
Contribute to the planning and implementation of content and design for the charity's publications, ensuring consistency in language, tone, style and design.
Facilitate rapid response to media stories.
Update websites.
Provide technical support and act as consultant to staff and officers on the development of web content in support of the charity's objectives.
Provide photographic images or video footage for articles or events published on the charity's website.
Carry out desk research.
Undertake proofreading of documents.
Organise events and carry out administrative duties.
This post will be based at Head Office in Chirk, near Wrexham, 0.5 miles from nearest bus stop and approx 1 mile to train station.

Essential Requirements :
Education/Training
Educated to at least degree level (Business/Marketing/Media related)
Knowledge/Technical Skills
Ability to carry out desk research skills, including the ability to log and refer back to source data speedily
Confident and clear verbal and written communication skills
Excellent written and spoken English is essential
Skills in MS Office, including Excel and Powerpoint
Excellent writing and editing skills with the ability to identify and summarise key points
Ability to analyse data and make recommendations
Ability to research a subject and make recommendations
Ability to use social media and photo sharing sites

Desirable Requirements :
Completed a degree or studying part time for or masters in a related subject (communication, media or politics) or ecology/conservation would be useful

Personal Skills
Excellent interpersonal and networking skills coupled with the ability to build strong and lasting relationship with stakeholders, clients and colleagues
A self-starter who can work independently with minimal support but can also work in a team environment
Ability to work under pressure yet deliver on time with attention to detail and accuracy
Can recognise, create and seize opportunities to put ideas into practice
Approaches projects methodically
