OVERVIEW/KEY RESULTS AREA:
- The Project Engineer will support where appropriate all technical & commercial aspects of the mechanical &/or electrical installation on the projects
- Ensure that operations on site are carried out in a safe manner
- Ensure that the company's business processes are followed in carrying out the construction project
- Maintain good client relationships
BACKGROUND:
The successful candidate will be working within an existing project team to undertake the technical appraisal & development of specific mechanical packages. This will be done through the submission & approval of Technical Submissions to the Professional Team, which enable package procurement & implementation to meet the project deadlines.
THE ROLE
KEY TASKS
- Responsibility for the installation of the mechanical part of a project or specific mechanical packages.
- Ensures technical, quality & performance standards are met. Through the completion of technical submissions & the technical submission process.
- Interprets design information correctly.
- Has sufficient technical ability to create or adapt design information. Including working on the development of Value Engineering Opportunities.
- Supports the foreman & installation team with technical advice.
- Ensures that timely & accurate information is available to the Project Manager & achieves tasks within timescales identified.
- Understands & works to budgets.
- Ensures that procurement is technically correct & carried out in accordance with procedure & prioritised schedule.
- Contributes to productivity improvement & performance monitoring.
- Manages allocated sub contractor performance.
- Creates & implements plans consistent with the overall project plan.
- Identifies any potential problems & takes action in a timely manner.
- Trains & supervises any trainee allocated.
- Contributes productively to meetings.
- Contributes to overall effective teamwork but able to work independently.
- Liaises with other specialists such as surveying to ensure variations, instructions & costing are dealt with.
- Represents the company when required in dealing with clients.
- Ensure the HS&E management procedures are being followed.
- Identifies snags or defects to ensure on time completion & commissioning.
- Ensures that information is collated to produce accurate record drawings & manuals.

THE CANDIDATE (PERSON SPECIFICATION)
RELEVANT TO THE JOB ROLE
EDUCATION:
Ideally degree in appropriate discipline (a minimum of a HNC is expected). Corporate membership of a professional body is desirable, together with evidence or recent management/leadership development.
The candidate must be able to competently use Microsoft Office in particular Excel Spreadsheets & Word. They must be capable of operating Adobe Acrobat & online document management systems such as 4Projects.
EXPERIENCE:
A strong understanding of technical issues & trends in the construction sectors. Including specialist markets, with an ability to differentiate against market propositions is essential. Ideally at least five years experience with a national M&E contractor. Proven track record of depth of experience in given field of expertise.
