Mechanical Engineer - Finite Element Analyst

Modis are hiring a Finite Element Analyst looking for a chance to work on leading edge technology within a fast paced and growing organisation based in Southampton. Following a recent injection of capital and new development projects in the pipeline, this is a great time to become part of a team in one of the more interesting engineering companies on the south coast.

The Finite Element Analyst will have overall responsibility for the success of the development projects from an analytical point of view for the company's product range and will be working as a key member of the mechanical engineering team. The successful candidate will be supporting new product developments by being focused on all Analytical aspects on new machinery for the high speed turbo-generator. You will also be responsible for creating and delivering thermal modelling and structural, vibration and stress analysis using Ansys software.

In addition successful candidates will be responsible for the Finite Element Analysis that also include bearing systems, vibrations and the balancing of stationary and rotating hardware as well as complex shafting systems for turbo-machinery applications.

It is therefore essential that candidate have the following skills and experience;

*Excellent analytical skills in order to complete complex mechanical assemblies, then able converse this with 3D designers is essential
*Extensive experience in using Ansys software to predict rotor characteristics is required.
*Be able to conduct structured engineering reviews (Design Review, FMEA etc)
*Hands on Calculation experience - essential
*B Eng (Hons) 2:1 minimum in mechanical, automotive, aerospace or power engineering is essential
*2 or more years of relevant mechanical engineering experience is essential. Experience with turbines, generators or turbo-machinery is desirable.
*Able to interpret finite element analysis techniques including stress & thermal analysis.
*Good understanding of bearing definition, configuration, lifing and selection is desirable
*Good understanding of vibrations, balancing on high speed rotating turbo-machinery is desirable
*The ability to work in a fluid organisation
*Ability to summarise, present and communicate analytical results to all levels of the engineering organisation and suppliers
*Be able to work as part of a team as well as independently and to challenge your own work.

£30-45 per hour based on experience. Hours of work are Mon to Thurs 8.30-17.00 and finish 13.30 on Fridays.
