JOB DUTIES:

-Create detailed product design specifications that meet customer requirements
-Communicate design concepts and technical plans effectively
-Construct & evaluate prototypes for meeting design specifications
-Lead troubleshooting activities of design issues
-Perform tolerance analysis of designs and stack-up analysis
-Conduct technical design reviews and presentations
-Create design verification and validation plans
-Design fixtures for testing and direct clinically relevant testing to meet requirements
-Write detailed protocols and reports
-Review drawings, create ECO's
-Demonstrated aptitude in mechanical engineering with hands-on experience in product design and development

*Senior Mechanical Engineer to drive innovations, new architectures, and DFMA for the O-Arm.

*Ideal candidate will have experience designing and analysing robust, robotic systems, developing Capital Equipment systems and design/analysis for reliability.

*Researches, plans, designs and develops mechanical products and systems such as instruments, controls, robots, engines, machines and mechanical, thermal hydraulic or heat transfer systems for production, transmission, measurement, and use of energy.

*Applies research to the planning, design, development, and testing of mechanical and/or electromechanical systems, instruments, controls, engines, and/or machines.

*Applies education and experience and technical expertise toward developing world class medical products for image guided surgery.

Position Responsibilities:

.Technically contributes in an R&D product development environment to develop robotic-guided imaging products

.Core competency in computer aided design, FEA for static, dynamic, and thermal systems

.Mentor and provide technical guidance to the engineers/designers

.Generate ideas and solutions for new products as well as engineering support for   current products

.Comply with regulatory requirements, including company design control procedures

.Assist with activities relating to design, testing, and evaluation of system elements

.Coordinate system level testing and validation efforts

.Facilitate design reviews

.Frequent inter-organizational and outside customer contacts.

.Represents the organization in providing solutions to difficult technical issues associated with specific projects.

.Works under only general direction.

.Independently determines and develops approach to solutions.

.Work is reviewed upon completion for adequacy in meeting   objectives.

.Provides technical solutions to a wide range of difficult problems.

.Solutions are imaginative, thorough, and practicable, and consistent with organization objectives.

.Complete understanding and wide application of technical principle, theories, and concepts in the field.
.General knowledge of other related disciplines.

.Design skills include an understanding of drafting standards, design progression, GD&T in compliance with ASTM Y14.5, DFSS/DFMA, tolerance analysis and FMEA/PFMEA methodologies

Basic Qualifications:

EDUCATION REQUIRED

.B.S. or M.S. in mechanical engineering

YEARS OF EXPERIENCE

.4+ years of industry product development experience with bachelors

.2+ years of industry product development experience with masters

SPECIALIZED KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED

.Expert knowledge of Mechanical technical principles, theories and concepts

.Proficiency in the use of analytical tools such as finite element methods

.Experience designing motor driven mechanisms and high precision motion systems

.SolidWorks, FEA (Cosmos), DFMA experience, Microsoft Windows environment, Outlook, excel,   MS Project

.Microsoft Office proficiency (eg Outlook, Word, Excel, etc)

Desired/Preferred Qualifications:

.7+years of relevant experience

.Mechanical design and development of robotic systems/capital equipment.

.Proficiency in the use of analytical tools such as finite element methods (Solidworks simulation preferred), computational fluid dynamics (Solidworks flow simulation preferred) and the design of motion systems.
