Mechanical Design Engineer (Chilled Water Projects)

My client specialises in the design, build, optimisation and on-going management of data centres.

They Require an experienced and ambitious Mechanical Design Engineer with an eye for detail that can provide robust coordinated detailed designs for mechanical services within Data Centres. Help manage these designs to completion through testing to hand over. A thorough understanding of mechanical building services systems designed is required with a particular understanding of chilled water system. Equally important is the ability to undertake the design of other associated building services systems associated with data centres.

You will require experience in Mechanical design, to develop the important part of our business and contribute with expertise in developing bespoke Air handling and Chiller packages in conjunction with the Data Centre design and commercial teams.

ROLE PURPOSE

Responsibility for the cooling solution and other mechanical building services. Designs will be   developed from a Concept or high level schemes and work up to full installation documents.

Responsibilities will include

- technical support to the project team, estimation, detailed design and specifications, tender packages, some project management, installation quality control and on site system testing and design validation.
- Producing & developing scheme designs through to detailed design.
- Able to produce project documentation including Design, Scope, DesOps & IST documents.
- Completeunderstanding of applicable standards and regulations
- Checking and troubleshooting chilled water & air conditioning systems
- Equipment selection and comparison
- Working in collaboration with internal teams, subcontractors and clients

ESSENTIAL EXPERIENCE RELEVANT TO THE ROLE:

- Design of chilled water installations predominantly for mid sized M&E orientated Data Centre cooling projects (£2-20M)
- Coordination of contractors, suppliers and internal information
- Chilled water pipe work & pump design
- Full understanding of system controls
- DX & Chilled water installations
- Air handling equipment, Chiller, Dry Cooler & DX cooling solutions
- Building services systems & mechanical installations including ventilation
- Appreciation of associated building services electrical and mechanical systems
- 5 years design experience in an established consultancy or D&B contractor
- A high level of competency and experience using hevacomp or other design tool

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS RELEVANT TO THE ROLE:

- HND or degree in mechanical building services
- Membership of a professional institute would be an advantage

ANY OTHER DESIRABLE SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

- Data Centre experience would be an advantage but not essential
- HEVACOMP or similar
- CAD or single line drawing package
