Mechanical Design Engineer

Key Requirements

1)SolidWorks 2014 experience, 3D modelling, Design & Detailing
2)Rail/Rolling stock experience
3)Physically fit and able to climb into and under rail vehicles
4)Able to start at 7.30am until 4pm as core hours
5)Willing to work extra hours if required
6)Willing to work of site for surveys of vehicles or discussions with suppliers

Role

Concept design of new vehicle design thru to prototype and production
Able to measure existing components and create drawings for manufacture
Ability to work unsupervised ie to be able to think of solutions to problems
Willing to listen to other members of staff for design input even shop floor
Work to my clients procedures and Drawing standards, which will be explained
Must wear safety boots and Protective eyewear at all times in workshop
Other safety equipment to be worn when and where required.
Vehicle Modifications
Improved designs of existing vehicles
Practical approach to design, ie Design for manufacture
Small and large projects range from 1 day to 1 year or more

General Requirements

Knowledge of:
Fabrication & Welding
Machining

Nice to have:
Electrical Knowledge Highly Desirable (not required for this role though)
Equipment Installations
Cable and pipework routing
Pneumatics
Hydraulics
GRP mouldings
Plastic injection moulding
Casting
Practical shop floor experience would be beneficial but not essential
