THE JOB:

There is a vacancy for a Mechanical Design Engineer in the Naval sector.

The design is largely complete, but work is required to complete the final modifications and to support commissioning and the remaining trials before acceptance off contract in the UK.

The role reports to the Mechanical Team Leader.

Candidates should display as many of the following characteristics as possible:

- Degree qualified in Mechanical or Marine Engineering (or equivalent);
- Experience in excess of 5 years concerning naval marine propulsion and auxiliary systems;
- Have worked in a shipbuilding design environment (ie experienced in the preparation of design guidance which will generally be passed to a drawing office (We are not seeking a draughtsman therefore);
- Knowledge of classification society (Lloyds Naval Ship Rules ideal) and defence standards;
- Competent in pipework system design, including pressure loss calculations;
- Good investigative and problem solving skills;
- Work with equipment suppliers to deliver working engineering solutions;
- Able to research project records;
- Pro-active and innovative approach;
- Able to communicate clearly articulated solutions and justifications in an efficient manner;
- Able to integrate quickly into and established team so as to be effective as quickly as possible;
- Sea going marine engineering experience will be an advantage as the role may involve investigation of issues at ship, either during trials or alongside;
- Strong IT skills (Office software; Excel and Word in particular).

Working hours are 5 days per week, 37 hours basic, with overtime up to 48 hours. Immediate start ideal.
