Mechanical Design Engineer

The candidate in this Mechanical Design Engineer contract opportunity will be fully focused on achieving significant reduction of product cost as part of an integrated, multi-functional, cost reduction team. This individual must be able to provide immediate contribution to cost reduction efforts, beginning with DFM/A brainstorming and conceptualizing ideas through solid modelling.

An understanding of sheet metal design and fabrication techniques is required. S/He must be detailed oriented and be able to organize work for maximum productivity. The Engineer must have the ability to balance priorities effectively and work through distractions.

RESPONSIBILITIES WILL INCLUDE:

- Analysis of design as required to ensure fit and functionality of the end product
- Evaluation testing, including writing reports, for shock and vibration testing, thermal testing and other environmental and regulatory requirements
- Preparing engineering drawings to established standards and releasing the drawings through Engineering Change Orders (ECO's)
- Cost improvement projects for high horsepower drive products
- Product design, including concept generation, SolidWorks modelling and analysis and verification testing
- Conducting cross-functional design reviews
- Documentation of design changes and test results
- Implementation of engineering changes

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:

- 5+ years of experience in mechanical design of industrial electronics
- Background in DFM/A principles, experienced in cost reduction techniques
- Specific design experience with sheet metal and wiring/cabling
- SolidWorks experience, including sheet metal required
- Component and system level thermal management
- The ability to work in a team environment and communicate effectively.
- BS in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience

This contract position is expected to be 12 months in duration.
